Hello, Gaucho parents & families!

It is the first day of fall quarter here at UCSB. This newsletter includes student reflections on their first impressions of campus, upcoming events, a resource to help students get involved and build community, and more. We are looking forward to a great academic year!

Reminders & Announcements

Did you know The Club & Guest House is a 34-room boutique hotel conveniently located on campus with lagoon and ocean views? Room rates are all-inclusive, with no additional taxes or fees. Even if you're not staying overnight, consider joining us for lunch in the Dining Room where our beautifully crafted menu highlights local, organic products whenever possible (open Monday - Friday from 11:30am - 1:30pm). Consider The Club & Guest House the next time you visit campus. We would love to have you!
The COVID-19 Response team notes that COVID-19 cases increased over the summer and that other college and universities have seen an uptick in cases as their academic years have begun. The team recommends that community members get the recently-approved vaccine and practice mitigation measures like hand washing and face coverings if needed, test if symptoms occur, and report cases.

Gauchos are back on campus this week, including a new cadre of UC Santa Barbara students excited for the year ahead. We asked what their first impressions of campus were. Can you guess what they said? Check out the video.

Events

Save the Date! Parents & Family Weekend: Friday & Saturday, November 3 & 4. This annual fall event will provide opportunities to spend time with your Gaucho, meet other Gaucho families, and, dare we say, have a little fun!

Registration opens Monday, October 2; early bird pricing ends Monday, October 23 at midnight. Visit the Parent & Family Weekend website for more information.
Fall Student Job & Internship Fair: Thursday, October 19, 10:00am - 2:00pm. Students can join Career Services in-person at the Events Center and meet face to face with recruiters from all different industries and talk with them about amazing internship and job opportunities.

Resource of the Month: Shoreline

Student Engagement & Leadership (SEAL) manages an online system for all things involvement called Shoreline. Shoreline is UCSB’s official co-curricular platform. Users are affiliates of UCSB and are students, faculty, or staff. Community members and guests may view a list of UCSB's Registered Campus Organizations.

Not only does this platform list events hosted by Registered Campus Organizations (RCOs), but campus departments as well. Shoreline is an integral way for students to get connected on one centralized tool. Encourage your students to check out the many events and opportunities that are advertised on Shoreline!
