CONGRATULATIONS TO KCMS PRESIDENT,

DR. MICHELLE TERRY,

On a NEW POSITION at UW School of MEDICINE!

From the UW Office of Faculty Affairs

"As part of ongoing work to create anti-racist structural solutions to transform UW Medicine, we believe we must intentionally invest in the careers and well-being of faculty who are underrepresented in medicine and science (URMS). We are pleased to announce that Dr. Michelle Terry, Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, will be our first Assistant Dean for URMS Career Development. Dr. Terry will join the Office of Faculty Affairs and partner extensively with the Office of Healthcare Equity.

Dr. Terry first came to UW School of Medicine (SoM) as a resident in Pediatrics after graduating from Baylor College of Medicine. Since then, she has held many roles as an educator and leader in our system. She was a member of the College Faculty, a learning community composed of faculty and medical students, for many years and served as interim head of Olympic College last year. She has been the director of the SoM pre-matriculation program (PreMat) for five years, co-directs an advocacy elective for 4th-year medical students, and is the lead advisor for students pursuing a residency in pediatrics. A former regulator, she served on the Washington Medical Commission for five years, including a year as chair, and is currently president of the King County Medical Society.
Dr. Terry also has experience as an officer in a variety of local and national advocacy and charitable organizations that support children and families. Her favorite personal activities include spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and yoga. Without a doubt, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this new role.

Dr. Terry will build on the foundational work initiated by Dr. Kemi Doll, who created, launched, and led the Success for Underrepresented Faculty (SURF) program for early career URMS faculty. Dr. Terry will take over the leadership of SURF and expand efforts focused on both recruitment and retention of our URMS faculty. She will prioritize creating a supportive environment for URMS faculty and building community so faculty can thrive.

We see this as an important next chapter for UW Medicine. Dr. Terry will step into this role on October 1st. Please join us in welcoming her to the leadership team in the School of Medicine."
