Dear Student,
Thinking about education abroad during your time at Tufts? We're excited to tell you about the options you have through Tufts Global Education and the steps you will take to participate in those options. Please be sure to read this email in its entirety and make note of the important deadlines.
Education abroad is an academically and personally enriching experience for students in all majors! Tufts Global Education can help you make your study-abroad plans a reality. Students have various options for education abroad, from semester- or year-long programs based at partner universities around the world to short-term global programs in a variety of settings. Most students choose semester- or year-long study abroad during their junior year, but you may also consider going in your sophomore or senior year if that better suits your academic needs. Summer and/or other short-term options abroad can usually take place at any time during your Tufts career. No matter when you decide to go, planning early is crucial and will leave more options available to you as you will more easily be able to incorporate it into your academic plan.
How Do I Begin?- If you have not already, please watch or attend a "Study Abroad First Steps" session to get yourself acquainted with our policies, options, and timelines.
- Discuss your interest in study abroad with your academic or major advisor to plot out when you should take your various degree and major requirements; we recommend saving a few of the more flexible requirements (e.g., distribution credits) for your time abroad.
By November 1 of the academic year prior to semester or year-long study abroad, all students must register their intention to study abroad via the "Intent to Study Abroad" form. This is a mandatory step in order to study abroad; students who do not register their intent by the deadline will not be eligible to study abroad. That said, registration of intent is non-binding, so you may later choose not to study abroad. (Students who indicate their intention to study abroad will not receive an on-campus housing lottery number for that academic year and may choose to be placed on a waitlist for on-campus housing. Questions about the waitlist and housing-application process should be directed to Residential Life.)
