Jose Aguilar
Jose Aguilar's Quick Thinking Saves the Day Again!
Alaska Airlines employee Jose Aguilar's awareness of his surroundings, quick thinking and knowledge of safety protocols recently prevented a potential accident.
When Jose was on an escalator to the ticket lobby, he noticed trouble on the adjacent escalator. A passenger caught their handbag in the escalator and was close to being pulled down.
Jose sprang into action...literally! He jumped to the bottom of the escalator and hit the emergency stop button. The passenger was able to regain their balance and continue safely on their travels. Jose's actions are impressive, but perhaps not surprising: This is the second time his quick response was recognized for saving travelers from sticky situations.
Jose was a winner at the PDX People Customer Service Awards, where we recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary. Missed the last virtual awards ceremony? View the event recording or read about past winners.

Say Hello to Concourse B!
Two years ago, PDX demolished Concourse A to replace it with a bigger, brighter one. On Wednesday, Dec. 8, we said hello to Concourse B and new gates for Alaska Airlines and Horizons Air regional flights.
Before the sun came up, PDX People were hard at work welcoming passengers to the brand new concourse. Festivities included music, commemorative Hello B! newspapers illustrated by local artists, food from Screen Door, coffee from Good Coffee and even a newspaper delivery bike making the rounds! Also there to help say hello? Timber Joey, who made sure travelers had quality reading material for their flight.
If you weren't able to pick up a copy of the newspaper, you can check it out online at any time or have a copy mailed to your home.

Increasing accessibility at PDX is an ongoing endeavor. As part of that work, we’re partnering with KultureCity to open a sensory room on Concourse D – a space geared toward visitors with cognitive or sensory processing challenges. The room will feature a sensory station surrounded by a calming, comfortable atmosphere.
While the sensory room isn't open quite yet, learning about sensory processing disabilities and the importance of accessibility can start now.
To help you get up to speed on sensory rooms and enhance your inclusivity work, we’re offering the chance to win $100. All you need to do is watch a 30-minute video and take a short quiz – score 80% or higher and you’ll be rewarded with sensory inclusive certification!
