Dear Friends and Colleagues,
In the College of Fine Arts, we are always focused on how best to prepare our students for a fast-changing world and arts landscape. Two of our newer programs are particularly designed to help students discover new professional pathways and take charge of charting their academic and professional journey.
Our Arts Administration Fellowship program is currently taking applications for its third cohort, and the fellows from the first cohort in 2024 are thriving. The two-year program places Fine Arts students in a paid summer internship at an on-campus arts organization in the first year and at an Austin arts organization in the second summer. The program also provides robust programming around career readiness and offers a supportive environment for students to ease their transition into the workforce.
The University recently profiled Stacy Nguyen, a 2025 Studio Art alumna from the inaugural cohort, and she talks about her experiences supporting an artist-in-residence during her Visual Arts Center internship and her museum education-focused internship at The Contemporary.
We’ve also been working to introduce life design curriculum across the undergraduate experience in the College of Fine Arts. We were lucky enough to serve as a pilot program for Texas Career Success, and UT is building on the excellent outcomes of the program in our college and continuing to expand it across campus to other colleges and schools.
This month, our Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies John Turci-Escobar spoke on a panel at a conference for academic administrators from across the entire UT System to share how we are integrating this type of career education into the curriculum for our students.
We’re proud to be a model of a modern fine arts college that provides students the tools and agency they need to prepare for their lives beyond the Forty Acres.
Sincerely,
