Alumni Service Award Recipient

Doug VanderJagt, '92, is this year's Alumni Service Award Recipient for demonstrating outstanding service to the university and the Alumni Association. He has worked for Rockford Public Schools for 14 years, serving as the assistant superintendent of Human Resources for the last three. VanderJagt earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Grand Valley in 1992. He gives back to GVSU through his involvement with the Swimming & Diving Alumni Chapter, College of Education Alumni Association, and Future Alumni Association, and continuous financial support to the university.

2nd Annual Coach Meerman Golf Outing

Join us on Saturday, May 27, at the Moss Ridge Golf Club & Banquet Center in Ravenna to celebrate the life of Coach Meerman, while raising money to help grow his scholarship at Grand Valley. The Coach Meerman Memorial Scholarship helps walk-on student athletes complete their degrees at GVSU. While at GVSU, Coach Meerman played running back for the Laker football team from 1977-1981. After golfing, join us for a steak dinner and award banquet with prizes for top-finishing teams and skill competition winners.

Become a Leader Within the Alumni Association

Looking for a way to get involved? Consider joining the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Board members serve on at least one committee and lend their professional expertise as needed. Board members are expected to participate actively and consistently in board functions and to demonstrate leadership in a variety of university volunteer activities.
The Young Alumni Council (YAC) is another great way to make a difference. The YAC is the voice of GVSU young alumni, creating and planning multiple events throughout the year.

CLAS Alumni Golf Outing

Join the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on Wednesday, June 14, at The Meadows Golf Course to support the CLAS Endowed Scholarship Fund. This scholarship assists students in financial need to achieve their academic goals. Driving Range and registration opens 12 noon, and shotgun start is at 1:00 p.m. Golfers and non-golfers are welcome to join the cookout and celebration at 6:00 p.m.

1967-2017: Commencement Marks 50 Years

Laker pride was at an all-time high when more than 3,200 students walked across the stage at commencement ceremonies held April 28 and 29. This year's commencement marked the 50th anniversary of Grand Valley's first ceremony that took place on June 18, 1967 in Allendale, and it was the first time the university had three ceremonies take place over two days.

Women's Center Named for Davis

Provost Gayle R. Davis received surprise announcements during two retirement celebrations held April 18 and April 20. During the April 20 reception at the Kirkhof Center, it was announced that the Women's Center at Grand Valley will be named in her honor. President Thomas J. Haas said the naming of the Gayle R. Davis Center for Women and Gender Equity aligns with Davis' commitment and passion for inclusion and equity.

The GVSU Rec Center on the Allendale Campus is offering reduced rate alumni memberships, for anywhere from 1-month to 12-month durations. Contribute to Grand Valley's History

GVSU Archives is looking for Grand Valley memorabilia, artifacts, and photographs to add to its collections. GVSU Archives preserves Grand Valley’s history and makes it available to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public for education and research use. Looking for: Photos of campus/events, posters, yearbooks, etc. Not looking for: Issues of the Lanthorn, personal photos, course catalogs, course textbooks, course schedules, or class materials. GVSU Will Host NCAA Women's Lacrosse and Outdoor Track & Field Championships

"Hosting an NCAA Division II National Championship is an amazing opportunity to showcase Grand Valley State [and] our student-athletes," says first-year Director of Athletics Keri Becker. The Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship will take place in 2019 at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium and the NCAA Division II Men's & Women's Track & Field Championships will occur in 2021 and 2022.

Lakers Claim GLIAC Golf Championship Title

The Grand Valley State men's golf team won the GLIAC Golf Championship on April 23 with a total score of 890 (+9), eleven strokes ahead of second-place Ferris State. The title is the seventh in program history for Grand Valley State, and marks the first GLIAC title for GVSU since the 2012-13 season. "The guys worked so hard for this and I am very proud of their progress," said GVSU head coach Gary Bissell.
