Dear Students:
When we welcomed you to the Tulane family last year, we shared our hope that your class would be the first to experience a Tulane where most third-year students are able to live on campus. We are writing today to let you know that this will soon be a reality.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we anticipate completing Fogelman and Bayou Halls, located on the former site of Irby and Paterson residential halls, next year. This will give us the capacity to house third-year students on campus, for the fall semester of 2025. Please know we do not anticipate being able to house third-year students who will be returning from Study Abroad in January 2026.
We are basing our projected housing capacity on current enrollment trends. Should this change, we will make adjustments to allow a limited number of third-year students to live off-campus.
But, if you will begin your third year on-campus in Fall 2025, you should NOT sign a lease that would commit you to living in an off-campus residence for the 2025/26 school year, unless you will be studying abroad for Fall 2025.
As always, third-year students will be given priority over first- and second-year students in choosing housing arrangements including apartment style living in Aron and single rooms available in Décou-Labat. First, second and third-year students who live on campus will also be required to participate in Tulane’s dining program.
Fogelman and Bayou Halls are part of The Village – the series of five innovative student residences going up along McAlister Way. The first residential halls to be built as part of The Village - Lake and River - opened in 2023. Bringing more students into our expanding state-of-the-art living and learning residential halls has long been a goal of the university. Research has consistently shown that students who live on campus are more engaged academically and socially and report a higher level of satisfaction throughout their college experience.
Students who live on campus enjoy easier access to classrooms, libraries, dining options, recreational venues, student health
services, safety resources and more. On-campus residents also have the opportunity to live in a dynamic and engaging setting with like-minded classmates who share their intellectual interests and research pursuits.
The Village also helps fulfill Tulane’s goal of working closely with the City of New Orleans to build more housing to reduce the pressures on the off-campus housing market and sustain the integrity of the neighborhood communities that surround the university.
This is an exciting time for Tulane and for all soon-to-be third-year students. As you continue your undergraduate journey, we are looking forward to ensuring you will be able to live on campus among your peers and with the nearby support of the faculty and staff dedicated to your education and enrichment.
