A Historic Day for a Historic Building

On Tuesday, October 24th, we were thrilled to be part of a historic moment as we celebrated the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the renovation of the Huey P. Long Field House. Our school proudly resides in this remarkable building, and this renovation signifies a new chapter in our journey of knowledge and discovery.
The event was a spectacular gathering of dignitaries and donors, all instrumental in making this incredible restoration a reality. Governor John Bel Edwards, LSU President William Tate, and CHSE Dean Roland Mitchell shared insights into the building's history and the profound impact the renovation will have on LSU students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners who enter its doors.

In addition to the main ribbon-cutting ceremony, special events were held throughout the day to recognize our generous donors. Ochsner Health's donation for the impressive Ochsner Wellness Center had its own ribbon-cutting ceremony, and we also honored the Baton Rouge Orthopedic Clinic for their contribution to establishing the Baton Rouge Orthopedic Clinic Kinesiology Classroom.

Later in the afternoon, a ribbon-cutting celebration for the Amelia M. Lee School of Kinesiology Director's Admin Suite took place, honoring former LSU Department of Kinesiology Chair, Amelia Lee, for her remarkable contributions to LSU and the field of Kinesiology.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our donors for their invaluable contributions; this building restoration would not have been possible without your support.

If you haven't had the chance to visit the Field House since its reopening, we look forward to welcoming you soon!

Welcome to the Dr. Monroe J. Rathbone, Jr. & Mrs. Barbara F. Rathbone Human Anatomy & Cadaver Lab, a state-of-the-art facility located at the LSU School of Kinesiology within the historic Huey P. Long Field House. This cutting-edge lab was made possible through the generous support of the Rathbone family and is now a hub for scientific exploration, education, and research.
In this captivating video, we invite you to take a virtual tour of this remarkable space, showcasing the facilities that enhance the learning experience for students, educators, and researchers alike. The lab is equipped with the latest technology and resources, making it an invaluable asset for those seeking to understand the intricacies of human anatomy.
We also sit down with dedicated Teaching Assistants, who share their personal experiences and insights about taking courses in this lab. Their stories provide a unique perspective on the importance of hands-on learning and the impact it has on their academic journeys.
A little lagniappe - To thank the incredible generosity of the LSU Vet School for allowing us to use their cadaver lab for over 16 years, Kinesiology student Ireland Coates created a beautiful mixed-media painting for the Vet School. Read more here!
