SAVING THE LIVES OF LATINAS The Hispanic Chamber will host its monthly luncheon meeting on Tuesday, March 25th at the Hilton Hotel on the 23rd Floor in downtown Portland.
This meeting will feature keynote speaker, Thomas Bruner, CEO of the Susan G. Komen Oregon & SW Washington. Mr. Bruner is a nationally recognized leader, who has 25 years of successful experience building, growing and managing health and human services organizations across the country, and effectively mobilizing communities and policy makers around the issues and needs they seek to address.
Komen's
Latina Initiative (La Iniciativa Latina) is a five-year, $1.5 million project designed to save lives by increasing screening rates and reducing late-stage diagnoses among Latinas. Breast cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer among Latinas. In Oregon and SW Washington, Latinas have a higher percentage of late-stage breast cancer diagnoses. According to Komen, these disparities, coupled with the rapid growth of the Latino population in this region, have made Latinas a high priority.
