Housing and Dining Selection Process

The new student housing selection process will look different than it has in years past. This year, you will receive an assigned 24-hour sign-up window. If you would like to select your space on campus, you must do so within your assigned window. Students who do not select a space will be randomly assigned a space for fall 2021.

Spaces for new students will be limited in certain neighborhoods across campus. East and Brody neighborhoods will have the most spaces available for students who are not in a living-learning community. If you want more than one roommate, we recommend Akers Hall, which offers quads. Be sure to explore all of MSU’s neighborhoods and have a few backup choices. Don’t worry — each neighborhood will have new students to share your experience with, and each provides you with the amenities you’ll need to be successful on campus!

Sign Your Housing Contract by May 21

Your must sign your Housing Contract, found in your My Housing account, by May 21 to be able to select your neighborhood and room. Students enrolled in a living-learning community will be assigned to certain halls depending on the program. Visit eatatstate.com to learn about your dining plan options!

Please note, Hubbard Hall in East Neighborhood will be used for isolation/quarantine housing for the 2021-22 academic year and will not be available for first-year student housing.

Reminder: How to Sign Up For Your Space

  1. In late May, you’ll receive an email from Live On with your designated 24-hour window to select your room and dining plan. Time slots are randomly assigned across all new students, and available spaces will be evenly distributed across all time slots to make the process fair to all.

  2. New students enrolled in living-learning communities (LLCs) will sign up first, followed by all other new students. To learn more about LLCs and their housing rules visit liveon.msu.edu/LLC-Guide.

  3. To start the sign-up process, log in to your My Housing account during your assigned 24-hour sign-up window.

    If you are signing up with a roommate, the student completing housing sign-up will need the other’s roommate code and MSU email, along with their dining plan selection. Students create roommate codes in their My Housing account. Please note, the ability to choose suitemates will be very limited.

MSU has partnered with My College Roomie to offer roommate matching for incoming and current Spartans! Keep an eye out for an email from My College Roomie, which is specifically tailored for Michigan State University students and is offered to Spartans free of charge. Living-Learning Community Roommate Guidelines

Each living-learning community (LLC) has different guidelines when it comes to halls students are allowed to live in, and if you can have a roommate who is not part of the LLC.
