Dear GW Law Student,

We hope this message finds you well. It was a pleasure meeting so many of you and welcoming you to GW Law! Our goal for orientation is to help students connect with one another and with the law school. We believe this is an amazing community and we are so proud and happy you have chosen to join.

(1) Feedback - During your time here, you will learn that we value student feedback. We are always trying to figure out ways we can improve your experience at GW Law. Here is a link to an evaluation of the Full Time Orientation Activities. We hope you will take the time to complete it.

(2) Policies – Some essential university and law school policies are below. Please review this information carefully.

The GW Law Bulletin – The Bulletin provides the law school’s official rules and policies. Please bookmark this page as you will refer to it often as a student.

GW Law Academic Integrity Code – In the Bulletin, you will find the GW Law Academic Integrity Code, a portion of which was covered in orientation. Please review this code carefully as you will be held to it while a student at GW Law.

Citing Responsibly – As mentioned in orientation, Citing Responsibly is the law school’s annual publication on how students can avoid plagiarism. You will reference it in your Fundamentals of Lawyering course and should familiarize yourself with it.

University Regulations – Various University Regulations, including those applicable to Law students can be found on the University’s main website. They include:

Campus Safety – Here is a link to information related to safety on campus, including directions on how to enroll in the GW Alert system. We strongly encourage you to review this information and enroll. Please note any alerts will go to your @gwu.edu address so it is important that you forward that to your @law.gwu.edu account.

The GW Guardian App – The GW Guardian App offers an additional layer of security to the University’s emergency mass notification services. You can find more information about it here.

GW Title IX Office – On the website of the GW Title IX Office, you can find information on a variety of resources. Included are the Title IX Sexual Harassment and Related Conduct Policy and the Policy on Prohibited Relationships with Students

Complete Required Sexual Assault Prevention Module (Due: September 15)
GW Law is committed to creating and maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all members of our community. To help fulfill that commitment, each incoming student is required to complete an online sexual assault prevention module to ensure they are aware of the resources available and understand the values and expectations at the University. You will receive an email with a link and instructions on how to complete the module near the beginning of classes. If you have any questions, you can contact the Title IX Office at titleix@gwu.edu.

Locker Rental The Student Bar Association has updated the Locker Sign-Up Form.  If you wish to rent a locker please complete the form at your earliest convenience.

Research Credentials    For those incoming transfer students who have not registered for their GW Law research accounts, you may want to do so sooner rather than later.  If you are relying on using credentials from your prior institution to access your Westlaw, Lexis, or Bloomberg accounts please know that your previous institution will run an audit and delete the account sometime this fall.   I strongly encourage you to register for your GW Law accounts as soon as possible.  By way of gentle reminder, you should have received an email from eservices@law.gwu.edu with information about how to register.

We hope you have a wonderful week!
