Through the voices of the Appalachian people, this award winning documentary explores in microcosm the global issue of environmental predation. It also examines the legacy of the energy industry, their current production goals coming out of the Appalachian Basin, and the great relevance this has on the GEO political scene and climate change.   Presented by the Resident Green Committee. CHRONIC DISEASE SELF MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP: NOW ENROLLING!
The Chronic Disease Self Management Workshop is open to anyone who is interested in learning tools and techniques to better manage their chronic condition.  Participants will receive a copy of "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions".  This class is for anyone who is interested in managing Heart Disease, Arthritis, Diabetes, Depression, Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema and other physical and mental health conditions.  This six week class is free but you must sign up by contacting Tina King, Executive Director at the New River Valley Agency On Aging at 540-980-7720 or tinaking@nrvaoa.org. There is a class limit so sign up early to ensure your space in the class.

EXPERIENCING AMERICA: A SMITHSONIAN TOUR OF AMERICAN HISTORY DVD SERIES 
This DVD lecture series is lead by Dr. Richard Kurin, Smithsonian's Under Secretary of History, Art, and Culture. His book, The Smithsonian's Histrory of America in 101 Objects is the basis for this Great Course lecture series. Two half-hour lectures will be shown.

Additional meeting time added!  The Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Support Group will meet the first Friday of the month at 3pm, led by Jocy Graham, Fitness Director.  The group will continue to meet the third Friday of the month, led by Heather Gearhart, Vice President of Health and Wellness. This group is for anyone caring for a loved one, especially those who suffer from dementia or Alzheimer's. Open to residents and community members. STORY HOUR/HAPPY HOUR: DR. DAN HODGE
Dr. Dan Hodge began his electrical engineering career at age 14 as an amateur radio operator.  He obtained his PhD at Purdue University while working as a radio announcer and technician. He was the head of the Electrical Engineering Department at Ohio State University and at VA Tech while serving in several engineering organizations at the national level.  Dr. Hodge directed accreditation for all university engineering degree programs in the United States. He will tell stories of endowments at the VA Tech Electrical Engineering Department and other intriguing tales of historical figures. Dan and his wife Lorraine live in Woods Edge.
