Big Career Dreams? Get Talking. |
As we head into the fifth week of classes, the semester seems to just be flying by! With both Career Fair and Brick City Homecoming coming up, there’s no better time to lean into the career opportunities ahead and start your preparation early.
When it comes to your career search, one of the simplest—and most effective—ways to explore possibilities and discover what inspires you is by talking to people. Peer students, family, alumni, faculty, staff, and former employers can all be valuable sources for learning about opportunities that may not be publicly posted.
|
So, how can you prepare yourself to talk to people? |
First, identify who you could talk to help explore career possibilities, whether that is faculty, staff, or family and friends. Think about what or who has inspired you in your career journey so far, maybe that is an experience you’ve had, a friend or a former teacher.
When you talk to people, ask questions, listen, and take it all in. Ask things like “What is it like to work in your industry? What does a day look like, and what would I be spending my time on? What is the environment or culture of the organization or industry?”
