The classroom was filled with bears this week! We had been talking about how bears sleep a lot in the winter before this week, so the children loved seeing the cave we made where all the bears (and stuffed animals) could go.
At circle time, we read (sang) the book Where Do You Sleep? and learned where different animals sleep, day and night. We also put our bears in their matching colored bear caves. We read the book Baby Bear Sees Blue and matched the colors he saw.
We made bear masks, which we will use next week when we go on a bear hunt. We decorated paper bears with shapes, and then we enjoyed hot cocoa!
Next week, we will continue the bear theme before moving on to Valentine's Day!
Have a nice weekend!

Bears, bears, and more bears! We moved into our Bear/Hibernation theme this week, and the children spent time playing and exploring in the "bear cave" and reading lots of books about bears.
In art, we made bear masks and bear caves. The children used natural materials from outside in addition to painting their bear caves.
We introduced the letter/sound L while tracing and putting together a sound puzzle. We will revisit the letter L next week and introduce the letter F.
We were fortunate to get outside in the sunny but cold weather, and we all loved it.
We hope you are staying warm this weekend, and we will see you all on Monday!

This week in Pre-K, our learners began exploring Community Helpers by discovering what a community is, what makes it special, and the different places people live, including cities, suburbs, and farms.
Our first focus was on health helpers. The children learned big new words like otoscope and stethoscope as we explored how doctors, nurses, and dentists care for our bodies. For process art, they painted a tooth using toothbrushes and created their own X-ray handprints after looking at real X-rays. In dramatic play, our classroom turned into a busy doctor's office where children fixed "broken legs," checked on patients, and cared for one another. One child even shared that his heart plays a "musical beat.”
We also began learning about safety helpers who keep our communities safe. During process art, the children created a firetruck by arranging shapes to form tires, lights, and other parts. This supported their shape recognition and visual discrimination skills, which involve noticing similarities and differences in shapes, sizes, and positions. We danced and sang to Hurry Hurry Drive the Firetruck and read Even Firefighters Hug Their Moms by Margaret McNamara.
In small groups, the children played a Community Helpers matching game, pairing helpers with their tools and vehicles. This activity encouraged memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. They also practiced the letter/sound B and reviewed numbers 1-6.
Next week, we will continue our Community Helpers theme as we learn more about health and safety helpers, neighborhood helpers, and community careers.
Have a great weekend!

Kinder Prep continued their study of animals by moving into the Rainforest to explore all of the layers of animals it has to offer! We learned about Jaguars, Toucans, Macaws, Sloths, Blue Morpho Butterfly, and the Poison Dart Frog. We discovered that the Rainforest has four layers and discussed what lives in each.
We moved away from the animals for a bit because the flowers we learned about are so beautiful and interesting! Ask your child about the Rafflesia, and they'll tell you a very shocking fact!! I enjoy how inquisitive this class is about the material we are exploring.
The lowercase letter/sounds we practiced this week were s, v, w, and t. Our number for the week was 13, and we reviewed shape recognition. During choice time, students are offered a variety of play-based opportunities with open-ended materials to build and create. It is pretty cool to watch them put their curiosity into action!
Have a great weekend and stay warm!
