Dear Friends,
I keep thinking of the Mexican proverb, "They tried to bury us. They didn't realize we were the seeds."
Going to The Women's March in DC with Ken and our daughters, and Sundance with my film team last month, were just the inspiration I needed for the big work ahead. We had very powerful screenings of our film 50/50, with discussions about our upcoming 50/50 Day, set for May 10. I hope you'll join us for this global day and initiative about the importance of getting to a more gender-balanced world. You can sign up here.
At Sundance we saw a fantastic documentary called Nobody Speak about the importance of freedom of the press. It's all so timely. Netflix just bought it so definitely keep your eye out for this film. Then I had exhilarating VR experiences at New Frontier . . . I felt what it was like to grow from a seed to a tree . . . to be an amoeba, a dinosaur, a gorilla . . . It was good to step outside of the messiness of being human for a few minutes.
In addition to 50/50 Day on May 10, we have Character Day 2017 set for September 13. These two global days are our efforts to bring ourselves, our country, and our world to a better place. Both days are generously supported by foundations and funders so they are no charge to you, and we'd love for you to bring one or both of these global screenings and conversations to your organization, company, school, or home.
Below are the fruits of many people's labors that will fuel your mind and soul and remind us . . . we are the seeds.

Tiffany

I saw this as as a one-man play by Aaron Davidman and it was so arresting. Cannot wait to see it translated onto film.

Mary Oliver's writing is so profound and poetic. I'm savoring these pages as a calm from the storm these days.
A funny thing happened on the way to the digital utopia. We've begun to fall back in love with the very analog goods and ideas that many in technology said were no longer needed.
Julian gives an in-depth investigation into spaceship making in 21st century thinking.
We all need to be reading more about love these days.
I always admire Ayelet's raw candor as she takes us on her journey through life.
This world definitely needs more of this right now.

Many people ask me, "What's it like to have a teenager while you have been doing Tech Shabbats?" Our daughter Odessa wrote an essay to answer that question ...
This is great long read ... very worth getting to the end. I'll leave it at that.
