Tips for Grads

The Modern Language Association (MLA) is running a project called Connected Academics that helps doctoral students of languages and literatures to use their humanistic training in a variety of careers outside of academia. The project includes:
  • Proseminars in New York City that focus on career horizons for Ph.Ds in modern languages and literatures, prospects for adjunct positions, and versatility of humanities research.
  • Mentoring and networking activities at the MLA Annual Convention and regional MLA meetings.
  • Reports on the career paths of graduates
  • Workshops for Directors of Graduate Studies to help doctoral students who pursue a variety of careers
On the website you can find useful resources such as Transferable Skills and How to Talk About Them, a bibliography of books about careers, links to useful websites, a blog, and much more.
