Let’s Talk about...Meeting Type
Anyone impacted by someone else’s drinking can seek support at Al‑Anon meetings. “Families and Friends Only” meetings are expressly for members and prospective members, while “Families, Friends, and Observers Welcome” meetings are open to all, including students and professionals.
Some groups may specify participant type (i.e., Adult Children, Beginners, LGBTQIA+, Men, Parents, Women, Young Adults, or People of Color), but all Al‑Anon meetings welcome anyone looking for help. Alateen groups, however, are exclusively for young people affected by someone’s drinking and Area‑certified Al‑Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service (AMIAS).
