Stay Well, Stay Safe, Stay Wise
We all now realize how serious the COVID-19 outbreak is, and we all have to do our part to keep ourselves well and safe, and to wisely consider that what we do or don’t do impacts our whole society. As future health professionals, you know this more than many others. Help your friends and families understand the importance of following all CDC recommendations all the time, even if they deem their risk to be low. You can play a role now on your way to becoming a bona fide health professional!
What’s Happening in Health Professions Advising

New on our website: COVID-19 FAQs

Also be sure to review: Academic Policy Exceptions for Undergraduate Students: Spring 2020

This page will be a clearinghouse for information from health professional associations: www.naahp.org/covid-19hplinks/home
The latest addition to FAQs is a Google doc for premed students to view that is being compiled by various med school admissions deans regarding their policies about pass/fail courses.
Appointments will continue to be posted weekly by Carol and Amanda at the end of the Wednesday work-day for the following week. Be sure to check for cancellations during each week.
All appointments will be done via phone. Calendly will ask for your phone number and we will call you at that time. Since we will be having back-to-back phone appointments, please be patient if we are a bit late in calling you.
Registering for Fall Classes
The dates for the advising period and registration will not change and your communication with your advisor is still important although it will not be required. You can outline your plan in an email and ask if they have suggestions.
Take some time to review this recording of a webinar where we answer common questions surrounding registration. Be sure to download the file to your computer to access the video.
Also be sure to read this handout for some basic information on requirements, choosing summer school, doubling up in sciences, etc.
HPRC
The deadline to register is passed but you have a month if you need to make changes in your letters. You can go in and delete a letter any time up to May 1. You may notify us ONE TIME ONLY of a new letter you would like added to your portfolio. The range will remain 3-5 letters.

We will need the name and email address of the writer. Please notify HPRC@tufts.edu.
MCAT, DAT, etc.
It is not clear to any of us how testing sites, testing dates, etc. will have to change given the necessary restrictions placed on everyone by the COVID-19 virus. The associations (e.g. AAMC) are being flexible regarding changing dates, fees and more, but the testing companies like Pearson are the ones that will determine if test sites are open. We suggest you continue to study for your planned test day, or one soon after, so you are prepared to take it as early as it will be offered. There are links on our COVID-19 FAQ site that will get you to the most up-to-date information.
Volunteer Opportunities
Sites are popping up offering online opportunities to do volunteer work.

Check out this one and let us know as you find others!

Think about offering to do errands for an elderly neighbor, or offering tutoring or childcare to working parents whose day care centers and schools have closed. Offer to help families who are healthcare providers who may not be off work when stores are open, particularly if they are working overtime.

Get involved with the initiative to make facemasks for healthcare workers.

Donate at a Blood Bank near you.
