WARM HEARTH AT HOME HOSPICE: IT'S ABOUT LIVING
Hospice care is not about dying—it is about caring for living people with a focus on quality of life. At Warm Hearth at Home Hospice, we provide the physical, emotional, and spiritual support needed for the time remaining. The best hospice care relieves pain, preserves dignity, restores peace, and gives families back a sense of control—allowing patients to focus on a meaningful life during the journey with a life-limiting illness.
We gently guide families through the changes that may occur, easing fear of the unknown and helping loved ones feel present and comforted. And our care doesn’t stop there. Through our Grief and Bereavement Support, we walk with families for up to 13 months after a loss. With calls, visits, resources, remembrance events, and referrals for children and adults, no one has to grieve alone.
If you or someone you love is in need of hospice, call (540) 443-3418 or email cfecteau@warmhearth.org to learn more.

FALL FOR GOOD NUTRITION As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, fall is the perfect season to refresh your plate with flavors that are both nourishing and comforting. Here are a few simple ways to make the most of the season’s bounty:
Soups to Savor
Hearty, veggie-forward soups are a great way to add fiber and nutrients. Try experimenting with beans, leafy greens, or root vegetables—and make it fun with a “soup party,” where everyone shares their favorite recipe.
Roasted Roots
Sweet potatoes, beets, and carrots are at their best this time of year. Roast them together for a colorful side dish that brightens the table and boosts your nutrient intake.
Cozy Sips
A warm cup of tea or spiced drink can be both soothing and hydrating. Herbal teas and seasonal flavors like cinnamon or ginger add comfort with every sip.
Boost Your Immunity
Cold and flu season is here, but food can help! Load up on immunity-boosting choices like ginger, spinach, oranges, red bell peppers, and hearty oats to keep your body strong.
Try This: Build a Fall Charcuterie Board
For a fun, festive twist, put together a fall-inspired charcuterie board to share with friends or family. Mix sweet and savory for balance:
Apple slices with warm caramel dip
Roasted sweet potato wedges drizzled with peanut butter and dark chocolate
Cheese cubes and whole grain crackers
Roasted pumpkin seeds or spiced nuts
Fresh figs, pears, or grapes
It’s colorful, delicious, and packed with nutrients—perfect for gatherings or just a cozy night in.

ASSISTED LIVING WEEK WAS AN ADVENTURE!
This September, both The Willows at Kroontje Health Care Center and Showalter Center went all out to celebrate Assisted Living Week—making residents feel loved and ready for adventure!
At The Willows, the “Passport to Adventure” theme took residents around the world without leaving home. Each day brought a new destination: an American road trip, Italian opera and mask-making, a royal English tea, a lively Mexican fiesta, and a grand finale international fair with games, treats, and “passport” stamps from every stop.
Meanwhile, Showalter Center went “WILD in the Jungle” with safari sundaes, mini golf, jungle trivia, and even animal encounters from Mill Mountain Zoo! Residents enjoyed movie night with The Jungle Book, a special dinner out at The Farmhouse, and a thrilling trip to Fort Chiswell Animal Park to feed camels, ostriches, and zebras up close.
A heartfelt thank you to our life enrichment teams for their creativity and dedication. They made this year’s Assisted Living Week truly unforgettable, filled with laughter, adventure, and joy.
