On behalf of Miami University, Renate and I join all Miamians in expressing our sympathies to those in the Jewish community impacted by the shootings at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh this weekend. To all of the family, friends and colleagues of those affected, and to the entire Pittsburgh community, you are in our thoughts during your time of grief and anguish.
We are horrified at the hate-fueled acts of violence we have seen during the past week. They violate the most fundamental values that anchor our nation and our Miami University community. Let us stand together with all who face anti-Semitism, bigotry and violence, and commit ourselves to peace, mutual respect, celebration of differences, and common good in a community where everyone can thrive.
Let’s begin this week at Miami University by gathering to show our support for all those affected by last week’s violence. Monday evening at 6:50 p.m., Hillel will hold a candlelight ceremony at the Seal, in response to the tragedy in Pittsburgh. A group will be walking from Hillel (11 E. Walnut St.) starting at 6:25 p.m. Please join the Miami community in standing with our fellow Miamians against hate and intolerance.
