Arrival and Integration

It’s been a busy week here at MUDEC! Last Tuesday we welcomed the 27 students who will spend the summer with us here in Luxembourg. The rainy weather we’ve been having has made the Château grounds bloom in stunning shades of green – an impressive sight even if jetlagged! After their first of Stéphane’s famous lunches and a tour of the Château, the students met their host families and departed for a much-needed nap.
Wednesday was “Integration Day.” After finding their way to the Château, the students got to know Director Manes and the student services staff, embarked on a scavenger hunt around Differdange, and explored Luxembourg City on guided walks. The rain showers held off and we were treated to absolutely gorgeous sunshine and blue skies. It was, hands down, the most beautiful afternoon we’ve had yet this season – a great sign for the session ahead.

The summer session may be shorter than a traditional semester but we’ve got lots of great experiences planned. Between Discovery Tours, field trips, and the highly anticipated Study Tour, our students will have ample opportunities to see Luxembourg and Europe. It’s always a joy to share the beauty of Luxembourg with a new group. The diversity of landscapes and the layers of history present in this small and accessible country (the only one in Europe where public transit is completely free) are often surprising to first-time visitors. At a time when international travel is still not as straightforward as it was pre-pandemic, why not spend a weekend strolling vineyards and apple orchards along the Moselle, hiking the hills of the Ardennes, and visiting some of the country’s fairytale castles?
COVID may still be among us but things are getting better: case counts are declining, restaurant terraces are opening, and travel restrictions are slowly lightening up. With a bit of patience, planning and cooperation, our students are bound to have an engaging and enriching summer!
