SGA Celebrates in Maine
The Senior Golfers have been visiting the great state of Maine since 1986, and have enjoying playing golf and feasting on lobster in various picturesque resort towns in the Pine Tree State. The group was happy to return to the site of the very first SGA Lobster Festival, Samoset Resort.
The event opened with a fun Lobster Bake overlooking the Penobscot Bay. It was an honor to welcome newcomers Denise Bassham, Robert & Valarie Castor, Mark & Meredith Koerner, and Bill & Leslie Roberts, who traveled to Rockport from Cumberland, Maine, Florida, and Texas. SGA Hall of Fame members Mary Ann Calvert, Jeff Leech and Walt Schroeder were recognized. Everyone enjoyed excellent fresh lobster, clams, chowder, strawberry cake, blueberry cobbler,  and a lovely evening together.
SGA Best Ball Team Winners were the  Bill & Leslie Roberts and Janet & Walt Schroeder, who won on a match of cards over second place team was Diane & Jim Bruner and Mary Ann & Dan Calvert.  In the fun after-golf putting contest, winners once again were Bill & Leslie Roberts. Second place team was Meredith Koerner & Walt Schroeder, and third place went to Ann Anderson & Mark Koerner.

The event closed out with a beautiful "Lazy Lobster" dinner on the resort's Bay View lawn, overlooking the golf course and serene Penobscot Bay.  Event Winners at gross were Maine native Meredith Koerner for the Ladies, and her husband Mark Koerner for the men. Meredith and Mark live in Cumberland, Maine, but had never traveled to Samoset before. "Thank you for the warm welcome to SGA," said Meredith, "and I welcome you to return soon to my home state. This was a lovely first-time event, and Mark and I would like to join you again before long." Mark was busy with his protest against wearing his stuffed animal lobster prize, but was a good sport about everything.
Low Net winners were another wife-and-husband couple, defending gross champ Dan and Mary Ann Calvert.. Mary Ann is the defending gross champion from the 2022 SGA Lobster Festival. Runners-up were Robert Castor, Leslie & Bill Roberts, and Diane Bruner. Close to pin winners were Jim Bruner, Mark & Meredith Koerner, Robert Castor,  Bill Roberts, and Janet Schroeder. Special "Kickin it up a Notch" award went to Ann & Lennie Anderson.  Congratulations to all!
Edgecomb Potters Market

As far back as 2700 years ago, Native American people in Maine were making fired-clay ceramics that replaced wood, bark, or woven bowls. This pottery-making was a change that meant significant improvements in food processing and diet and offered better storage possibilities, making villages more permanent. The Maine pottery tradition continues today, with many pottery studios and retail outlets located throughout the state.
Chris and Richard Hilton shared a dream: to make and sell pottery in a little red schoolhouse in Edgecomb. Forty years later they still are making beautiful, durable, and functional pottery. Locally run, Edgecomb Potters has locations in Portland and York, as well as in Edgecomb, Maine, and features seven different artisans from the state. Gross and net champs at the SGA Lobster Fest were awarded Maine-made nautically themed platters and plates from Edgecomb Potters.
