S. Korea, 2026, Na Hong-jin
Korea’s Na Hong-jin's (The Wailing, Chaser) latest epic work HOPE received a 7-minute standing ovation at Cannes after the film captivated the crowd with its heart-racing action. In the remote South Korea village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung- min) and officer (Hoyeon, Emmy nominee from Squid Game) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village. In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions. Featuring Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. Subtitles. 160 min.

USA, 1967, John Boorman
In POINT BLANK, Lee Marvin stars as Walker, a man determined to get what he is owed. Sitting firmly between a classic Hollywood action film and a stylized European art film, director John Boorman broke with traditions to make something new and original. Defying chronological storytelling, Boorman uses every weapon in his cinematic arsenal to make a film as unflinching as its hero. "An almost experimental discourse on crime, punishment and revenge." Derek Malcom, London Evening Standard. 92 min.
The Craft of John Boorman. Classics in 35mm.
Special admission $14; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and ages 25 & under $11. Sunday 2:30 pm

Austria, 1923, Ivan Abramson & Sidney M. Goldin
In EAST AND WEST, Molly Picon, star of 1920s Yiddish theater, plays the daughter of a rich, assimilated American who is invited to a family celebration in an Eastern European shtetl. Though her brash behavior alienates the locals, she is admired by a shy orthodox Talmudic scholar. Molly realizes too late that, during a wedding that she thinks is a joke, she has actually been married. This charming comedy also features Picon lifting weights and boxing, teaching young villagers to shimmy and stealing away from services to gorge herself before sundown on Yom Kippur. Newly restored by Filmarchiv, Austria, it will be shown with a live original score by master silent film pianist Donald Sosin and violinist Alicia Svigals, the world’s foremost exponent of the klezmer. Presented in partnership with the Cleveland Silent Film Festival. English Intertitles. 82 min.
