FACILITATING TEAMS THAT PRODUCE RESULTS

Community schools are built on the principles of collective impact and shared responsibility for student outcomes. To achieve results, schools and districts need to build strong, high-functioning teams and maximize their time and efforts. The NYS Eastern Region Community Schools Technical Assistance Center (ETAC) invites you to a virtual workshop to learn best practices in leading community school teams, identify strategies for managing challenges and conflict, and discuss successful practices with peers from across the state.

Participants will leave the session with skills including results-based facilitation techniques, navigating difficult conversations and conflict management, and using consensus-based decision-making. These skills will help move your community school team to action, ensuring the team is held accountable for the results it sets out to achieve.

OUR PRESENTERS:

JEN CURRY

Ed.D., Founder, Change Impact, ETAC Team Member

Dr. Jen Siaca Curry works with nonprofits, government agencies, and schools and colleges to develop strategic plans, conduct research, raise funds, and design programs. Prior to founding Change Impact, Jen held a number of roles in education and workforce development. She served as the inaugural NYC Director of Samaschool, an innovative job training program focused on the future of work, and as Chief Operating Officer of ExpandED Schools, an intermediary that supports schools and community organizations to design and operate after-school programs. In her earlier role as Director of National Technical Assistance, Jen supported schools and nonprofits in Albuquerque, Baltimore, New Orleans, and Rochester to build high-quality after-school programs and systems through practice and policy change.

Named a 2018 Rising Latino Star by the Hispanic Coalition of New York State, Jen is a first-generation college graduate, also earning a masters in nonprofit management and doctorate in education leadership from New York University. She is Vice President of the NYS Network for Youth Success board of directors and an adjunct in Youth Studies at CUNY’s School for Professional Studies.

THERESE WORKMAN

Ed.M., Managing Director, Change Impact

Therese Workman has dedicated her career to supporting communities through economic development, higher education, and youth development initiatives. Her most recent experience was developing future-of-work education programs for low-income individuals at Samaschool, where she designed and delivered in-person and web-based curricula and workforce training programs. In this role, Therese partnered with over twenty community organizations, CUNY central and campus staff, and government agencies to enhance their job readiness programming. She has an array of previous experiences in learner support in higher education, from her posts with the Fulbright Program at the Institute of International Education and with Columbia University's Office of Global Programs.

Therese is also a skilled communications professional, having managed online content including websites, blogs, and social media as Senior Manager of Digital Content Strategies at ExpandED Schools. She has an AB in Visual and Environmental Studies and a Master of Education, both from Harvard University.

WHAT WE DO:

Provide for the Eastern Region of New York State a coordinated system of technical assistance, professional development activities, and information dissemination tools designed to help establish and operate community schools that will positively impact the outcomes of students and school families.

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY SCHOOL?

A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources to support the whole child and remove barriers to learning. Its integrated focus on academics, health and social services, child and youth development, and community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities.
