Message from the President

Greetings friend, and welcome to the March Comfort Connection!
Today I am asking for your help...
Do you know someone who is older, lonely, and doesn’t drive? Someone who would like to stay independent but needs help with a few things? Someone who lives in their own home and doesn’t want to move? You may have heard them say, "The only way I am leaving is feet first!!!"
I have heard over and over again from people I speak to, "If I had only known about your services, my dad would not have had to move!" or "A companion would have been perfect for my mom!"
What is it we do that helps people in such an incredible way when their health begins to fail? We can do anything a good son or daughter would do for their parent. We are family when family can’t be there.
From 3 to 24 hours a day, we can cook, clean, walk, play, or just be with your loved one. From taking care of household chores to personal care and sharing of lives and stories, our companions are able to come alongside and truly be a friend.
Although we are in our 13th year of business, and we have done our best to reach out to people of Winnipeg and surrounding areas, the truth is, there are still many who do not know about what we do and how we can help the elderly in our community. This is where you can help!!!
Do you know someone who could use some help to stay at home? The irony is a little bit of help will help them be independent. They could be in any type of home, even a personal care home or the hospital. Our companions are able to go wherever they are needed.
When you help us spread the word, we would like to give you our usual referral reward and a special treat as well. This is our usual referral reward: If you send three people our information booklet by email, and cc erin@cohcinc.com or if you let one person know and they follow through with a free assessment, you will receive $100 of free services which you can use yourself as an existing customer, or pass along to a person of your choosing.
As a special treat until the end of April, you will also receive a $20 gift card from Starbucks for sending out three emails, or one referral that follows through with a free assessment.
If you have any questions at all, please call Erin K. at the office at 204-949-3234 and she will be happy to share all the details with you.
We appreciate you, and thank you in advance for your help!!
Blessings,

Comforts of Home – Care

Caregiver of the Season

This month's Caregiver of the Season is Jonathon Z!
Jonathon has been employed with us since September 2014. He loves working for Comforts of Home - Care and appreciates our team is made up of respectful, understanding staff members.
Jonathon especially likes working one-on-one with clients because it provides an opportunity to build more meaningful relationships with them: "you can focus on one person and give them 100% of your focus."
Soft-spoken with a huge heart, Jonathon likes to spend his downtime getting into his games. He used to play soccer and nowadays he can often be found biking around Winnipeg. He enjoys BBQ steaks and southern-style home-cooked food.
Jonathon is very reliable and loyal to his clients. He serves them well, always putting them first and making himself available for their needs.
This is his first Caregiver of the Season and well-deserved! Thank you, Jonathon, for all that you do.

Video: Mom with Brain Cancer Pursues Passion for Dance

This mom was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and decided she wouldn't let it hold her back from pursuing her passion for dance...
"I had to think, what can I do with this time I have left that I will be fulfilled with, and which will help me stay alive, which will help me grow, which will help me be positive, which will help me do all the things I wanted to do with my life at that point."

Help Us to Help Those In Need

It starts with a belief every life should be celebrated.
Every person, young or old, limited in their abilities or not, deserves dignity regardless of their current contributions.
It demands respect for people regardless of any physical or mental frailty.
It requires compassion, patience and kindness. It is leadership that listens, embraces innovation, and is uncomfortably transparent and accountable.
It rejects the idea loss of dignity, isolation or malnutrition is part of aging or living with a disability.
At Comforts of Home – Care, we make a difference... your care, your way.

When you share our information booklet via email with 3 people (and cc erin@cohcinc.com), you'll get $100 of free services...
...plus a $20 gift card from Starbucks (special treat until the end of April)!

Joke of the Month

An elderly gentleman was invited to a friend's home for dinner one evening. He was impressed by the way his buddy spoke to his wife with endearing terms: Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, Pumpkin, etc.
The couple had been married almost 70 years, and clearly they were still very much in love. While the wife was in the kitchen, the man leaned over and said to his host, "I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your wife those loving pet names."

"I have to tell you the truth," he replied, "I forgot her name about 10 years ago!"
