DIGITAL DIVE WORKSHOPS
DAM (Digital Asset Management) 
This workshop will save you and your project! Learn how to use basic file management practices to protect your project. These practices include proper file structures, naming, and organization. We will touch on picking the right hard drive; formatting the project; storing and saving the media (Cloud vs Local); importing media to a project, and editing for final output. DAM (Digital Asset Management) is critical in the early stages of a project to ensure the safety of your work! Video and Audio will be provided in the workshop.

PROPUBLICA DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
ProPublica will be sponsoring need-based scholarships for 20 students to attend an eligible journalism conference in 2020. Anyone who is a permanent U.S. resident is welcome to apply. They especially encourage students from an underrepresented group — including people of color, women, LGBTQ people and people with disabilities — to apply.

Tips and Tricks of Adobe Premiere Pro 
Master the essential tips & tricks of Adobe Premiere Pro.  Come learn key techniques to get started editing your video and audio project. Your video/audio skills will be enhanced with useful tips, tricks, terms, and shortcut tools to assemble a sequence in Adobe Premiere Pro timeline. Video and Audio will be provided in the workshop.

JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIP FOR AMERICAN MUSLIMS
The Islamic Scholarship Fund offers scholarships for American Muslim undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Journalism with the goal of increasing representation in media and politics in order to improve public opinion and public policy.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Kerric Harvey's paper entitled “White Tribalism and Black Slavery in the American Capital:  Mapping the Geography of Fear in Washington, D.C. --  A Case Study in Urban Ethnography,” has been accepted for presentation at the British Museum in London, England as part of an academic conference on   “Anthropology in the World Initiative.” She’ll be talking about her on-going research in combining conventional and new media storytelling with an ethnographic method, in this case to challenge the long-standing perception of Washington, D.C. as minimal player in the American slave trade and as trade and as a “safe place” for pre-Civil War era free blacks. The June 2020 conference is co-sponsored by The British Museum and the Royal Anthropological Institute.
Trevor Davis was mentioned by The Washington Post for his research in the article “Sanders supporters have weaponized Facebook to spread angry memes about his Democratic rivals.”
David Karpf was quoted by The Associated Press in the article “Online ads still vulnerable to manipulation in US election."
Steven Livingston was quoted by The Washington Post in the article “Sanders supporters have weaponized Facebook to spread angry memes about his Democratic rivals.” Livingston was also featured for his research in the New York Times article “Trump’s Digital Advantage Is Freaking Out Democratic Strategists."
Peter Loge spoke to WRNR-FM, Annapolis, Md., about political communication ethics and the impeachment trial of President Trump.
Frank Sesno spoke to KCBS Radio, San Francisco, in the segment “Media Ethics and High Profile Deaths in the World of Fast Journalism.’’ Sesno was also quoted by Air Force Magazine in the article “Strategy and Policy.”

GWABJ PRESENTS: RECLAIMING THE MIC
In honor of this year's Black Heritage celebration, the George Washington University Association of Black Journalists will host a conversation with nationally syndicated radio personality Angela Yee of "The Breakfast Club."
Yee will discuss radio and digital journalism, the current state of hip-hop music and more. SMPA alumna Zinhle Essamuah will moderate.

The QTJA is a student organization of "journalists, media professionals, educators and students who work within the news industry to foster fair and accurate coverage of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer issues." The interest form to join this org is now open.
