17th LUCIE AWARDS GALA ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22
October 15, 2019 (Los Angeles, CA) – Lucie Foundation presents the annual IPA Best of Show exhibition and the third annual Lucie Photo Book Prize and party kicking-off Lucie week on Monday, October 21, 2019, at Splashlight in Soho, New York City.  The 17th Annual Lucie Awards gala presentation takes place on Tuesday, October 22, at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.  The Lucie Technical Awards are on Thursday, October 24, presented by Lucie Foundation and hosted by PhotoPlus Conference + Expo, at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Other events celebrating the 2019 Lucie Honorees, finalists and jurors are also scheduled throughout the week, by special invitation only. 
The Lucie Awards, produced by the Lucie Foundation, a nonprofit charitable foundation, honor the achievements of the world’s most accomplished photographers, discover and cultivate emerging talent, and promote the appreciation of photography worldwide.

David Fahey, gallery director, and highly respected Los Angeles fine art photography dealer is the guest curator of the 2019 IPA Best of Show Exhibition, which premieres at Splashlight, on Monday, October 21, during Lucie Week. Established in 1986, and since July of 1990, the Fahey/Klein Gallery has directed its attention to exclusively exhibiting rare, vintage and contemporary photography. In 2015, David Fahey assumed sole ownership of the Fahey/Klein Gallery. The gallery’s program combines established 20th Century photographers along with well-known and emerging contemporary artists. This is the first time Fahey has curated the International Photography Awards Best of Show exhibition. IPA Best of Show Exhibition, which includes 56 images by 35 artists, representing work from 40 + countries, premieres at Splashlight on Monday, October 21. The exhibition includes the IPA's 26 winning images plus 30 images chosen by the curator, Mr. Fahey.  The 26 category winners will receive an IPA trophy during the evening. This exhibition is sponsored by ChromaLuxe and Blazing Editions and hosted by Splashlight.

The same evening, also at Splashlight, Lucie Foundation is pleased to display the 3rd edition of the Lucie Photo Book Prize winners. This juried competition is open to a diversity of book submissions - from traditionally published to prototypes, hand-made books, and zines. The awards will be presented to photographers, editors, curators or publishers who have created such projects anywhere in the world within the last 24 months of our public call. Lucie Foundation is proud to offer two cash prizes to the top two finalists for their outstanding work - one Traditional $3,000 cash prize and one Independent $2,000 cash prize.  The stellar jury includes Joanna Milter, The New Yorker; Julien Frydman, Groupe Le Monde; Hilary Greenbaum, Whitney Museum of American Art; Dhyandra Lawson, Wallis Annenberg Photography Department, Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Paloma Shute, The California Sunday Magazine and Pop-Up Magazine; Brent Lewis, The New York Times and Co-Founder of Diversify Photo; Jessie Wender, The New York Times; Daniel DeSure, Commonwealth Projects; Catherine Edelman, Catherine Edelman Gallery; Frank Meo, The Photo Closer; Adriana Teresa Letorney, Visura; Michael Foley, Foley Gallery;  Amy Pereira, Photography Director and Curator.  Books of the photographic works of two prior Lucie Award Honorees, Arnold Newman, and Dawoud Bey are included in the list of 31 finalists.
