Dorothy Meaney, Director, Tisch Library
Dear Parents and Families,
“Because that’s what Hermione does,” said Ron, shrugging. “When in doubt, go to the library.”

This quote from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is excellent advice for any student. Based on data from our 2018 survey, it appears that many Tufts students do take this advice, as 99% of undergraduates report visiting our libraries during the course of a semester. On behalf of the staff at Tisch, the Lilly Music Library, and the W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library at the SMFA, I am very happy to be writing to you today to share how we support student academic work at Tufts.

Resources for Life After Tufts

Whether your student is graduating this spring or in a few more years, we encourage all Jumbos to take advantage of the many resources available for life-after-Tufts preparation. Here are just a few ways that they can begin to explore options and take practical steps toward post-grad success:
  • Real World Ready -- This online video course series covers everything from personal finance and job offer negotiation to employer benefits, taxes, apartment leases, and more. Students can create a Real World Ready account by logging into Tufts Handshake and viewing the resources in the Career Center drop-down menu. Students can also use Handshake to RSVP for events like our January #Adulting Conference, which features numerous life-after-Tufts topics.
  • Job Search Checklist -- For those considering full-time employment, fellowships, short-term or “gap year” programs, our Find a Job or Fellowship page includes a step-by-step checklist with tools for self-assessment and career exploration as well as the job application and follow-up process.
  • Tufts Destination Outcomes -- When reflecting on post-grad options, it can be helpful to see where fellow Jumbos have landed. Our destination outcomes charts are sorted by major and include organization names, job titles, and locations (for employment) and schools, degree names, and locations (for graduate study). Students often feel inspired -- and reassured! -- when they see the many possibilities open to them.
