Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Mentoring undergraduate student researchers, scholars, and artists helps you focus on some of the most important—and most rewarding—aspects of your role as a faculty member. The Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Scholarship can help you incorporate research and creative activity into your curriculum, connect with students interested in research and artistic experiences, and take advantage of student grants and presentation opportunities to offer students robust research, scholarly, and creative experiences. The fall calendar of events and deadlines will help you plan to take advantage of these opportunities. To discuss your ideas and questions, please contact:

New Faculty Orientation
Early in August CAFE welcomed all new faculty at UMKC for the annual New Faculty Orientation. The New Faculty Orientation provided an opportunity for faculty to meet new colleagues, learn about important campus resources and supports and begin their journey at UMKC. The sessions were highly engaging and interactive including conversations with the Provost. Faculty left the session with a wealth of new resources to help them and their students have a successful experience at UMKC.

The full day orientation was followed by a reception and dinner with Chancellor Agrawal and Provost Lundgren along with many Deans and Chairs. The evening provided a great opportunity for networking and socializing with new colleagues. CAFE is excited to welcome new faculty to UMKC and we look forward to engaging with all of our faculty in the upcoming year.

The Amazing Brain: Tight Knit Connections

The National Institutes of Health’s director’s blog recently featured this diffusion MRI fiber tractography that shows the brain’s intricate internal wiring that power our thoughts and actions. This wiring consists of tightly bundled neural projections, called fiber tracts, that connect different parts of the brain into an integrated neural communications network.
