Q1 Celebration THIS Friday

No Afternoon Programs

This Friday, there will be no Afternoon Programs. Instead, there will be a celebration of our successful completion of Quarter 1! All students are invited to remain on campus until 5:40 p.m. for a concert and outdoor games. Students in grades 8-12 may stick around for dinner and a movie. Buses will run at 5:40 p.m., but day students may choose to leave right after school. Day students in grades 6-7 must depart campus by 5:40 p.m. Day students in grades 8-12 must depart campus by 9:40 p.m. Students who leave campus may not return later in the evening. In the event of rain, this will take place on October 16.

Blessing of the Animals, TODAY

Our annual Blessing of the Animals service will take place TODAY at 1 p.m. on the SAS Track. This service is an opportunity for us to show gratitude for the beloved non-humans in our lives (dogs, cats, fish, succulent plants, even pet rocks). Students will gather by advisory groups around the track, masked and physically distanced. Those with pets to be blessed will gather on the field, and maintain physical distancing by standing in flagged spots. Parents and guardians are invited to drop off leashed or caged pets in the Gym Parking lot between 12:30-12:55 p.m. Please remain in your vehicle during the event. Pets must be immediately returned to parents/guardians at the conclusion of the service (1:30 pm). Questions? Contact Mother Short.

Standardized Tests, Oct. 14

Early Afternoon Programs & Early Dismissal

On Wednesday, October 14, students in grades 8-11 will take the PSAT. Seniors will be canoeing in the morning. Students in grades 6 and 7 will be taking the ERB. Afternoon Programs will run from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Buses will run at 3:15 p.m. Students who are not in an Afternoon Program, may depart campus after 1:00 p.m. Parents of Middle School students needing supervision after 1:00 p.m. may contact MAC supervisor Lizzie Duncan.

Tennessee Governor's School

Sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply for the Tennessee Governor’s School Programs which provide summer enrichment and college credit in 11 academic disciplines while students enjoy living on a college campus with a cohort of highly motivated students from across the state. The deadline is December 1 for the arts programs and January 15 for all other programs. Questions? Contact Director of College Counseling Dan Monahan.

Putting Stress to Work For You

Today, in our JBlock gatherings we will be watching this TED Talk. In it, psychologist Kelly McGonigal offers new research suggesting that stress may only be bad for us if we believe that to be the case, and introduces us to an unsung mechanism for stress reduction: reaching out to others. Following the videos, students will be gathering together to share treats and get to know each other better.
