Dear SU Community,
In the fall of 2021, we announced that our football team would become a member of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) beginning in the fall of 2023. During the fall 2022 semester, we were approached by the leadership of the SAA inviting us to have all 20 of our athletic teams join the conference. We were invited along with Trinity University to make this change.
Our Board of Trustees has endorsed our league affiliation change from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) to the SAA during the 2025–26 academic year. Southwestern will significantly benefit from joining a national-level conference that spans the southern United States and is composed of institutions with attributes similar to Southwestern’s.
Our new league colleagues include Berry College, Birmingham-Southern College, Centre College, Hendrix College, Millsaps College, Oglethorpe University, Rhodes College, and the University of the South.
We are excited to make this change for the benefit of Southwestern and especially for our student athletes.
