Participate in the Graduate School Success Study
The Graduate School is collaborating with Dr. Molly Carnes, UW Professor of Medicine and Industrial Systems Engineering and Dr. Angela Byars-Winston, UW Associate Professor of Medicine, to better understand students’ experiences in doctoral training programs, especially the experiences they have in addition to department-level education. Specifically, they are interested in knowing if, and how, different types of programs impact students’ academic and career development in their chosen fields. A survey of currently-enrolled doctoral students from a variety of doctoral training programs is being launched this spring semester, assessing students’ perceptions of program and mentoring effectiveness and other factors that contribute to success in doctoral training. The goal is to identify factors that may improve retention and doctoral degree completion for students, and thereby inform faculty and staff of ways to enhance their work with graduate students and improve the general campus climate for all doctoral students.
The survey will sample students across several training programs; you may receive an email link inviting you to participate in the survey. (There is no link to the survey in GradConnections.) Your input is highly valued and will help improve the Graduate School's efforts to increase student success.
Results of the survey will be available beginning August 2016. Questions about the survey can be directed to Dr. Angela Byars-Winston by email, ambwinst@medicine.wisc.edu, or phone 608.263.1731.
