LAST HEALTH-E NEWS OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR
The Health Professions Advising office is open all summer. In fact, May through July is the busiest part of our year as we work with our new group of applicants to med, dent, and other health professions schools. We do see students in person and do phone or Skype appointments but there are fewer in the summer due to this, as well as our taking some of our vacation.

No Open Hours in the summer.

Appointments will be available through the same appointment links.

Questions sent via email will be answered.

TAKING SCIENCE REQUIREMENTS OVER THE SUMMER
Many students choose to do this, however you should limit the number of premed requirements you take in the summer. There are important pros and cons to consider before deciding. What are you giving up by spending your summer in a science classroom and lab – income, rest and relaxation, and an opportunity to work or volunteer gaining valuable health-related experience? Are you mentally ready to step right back into a classroom after a long academic year? Are you confident you will get the quality course you need to be prepared for the MCAT, DAT, etc. and your future studies? Do you need to be in a rush? Once you answer these questions, you may determine that a summer course makes sense for you.

Try to balance the course with at least a little volunteer work or something to give you some release from the academic workload.

Also, consider the advantages of taking a distribution requirement or other elective over the summer, where you can more easily work and study at the same time. This could free up time during the school year, and allow you full semesters rather than compressed summers to complete lab sciences.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP
It is not too late to secure a health-related opportunity for the summer. Full-time paid formal internships are only one way to gain valuable exposure to healthcare delivery and patient care. Be creative and reach out to area organizations – not just hospitals but rehab facilities, community health centers, nursing homes, hospice programs and more. Our local volunteer database  can give you ideas of where to look near your home. You can combine a valuable volunteer opportunity with a paid position as a restaurant, camp or recreation center to have a full, productive summer.
JOB/POSTGRAD OPPORTUNITY
There are lots of jobs coming in for students interested in the health field. Be sure you are checking with our Career Center that has many more than we get. Best of luck in your search.

III. Codman Square Health Center (sent by a Tufts alum)
The Pediatric Behavioral Health Integration team at Codman is currently recruiting for the Pediatric Care Coordinator (PCC) position. The PCC would work closely with Pediatric Integrated Clinicians, Family Partners, and physicians in primary care to promote the well-being of high risk families and young children. This is a unique opportunity to learn about a new system of care involving integration of different services as part of medical treatment.
