TAKING SCIENCE REQUIREMENTS OVER THE SUMMER
Many students choose to do this, however you should limit the number of premed requirements you take in the summer. There are important pros and cons to consider before deciding. What are you giving up by spending your summer in a science classroom and lab – income, rest and relaxation, and an opportunity to work or volunteer gaining valuable health-related experience? Are you mentally ready to step right back into a classroom after a long academic year? Are you confident you will get the quality course you need to be prepared for the MCAT, DAT, etc. and your future studies? Do you need to be in a rush? Once you answer these questions, you may determine that a summer course makes sense for you.
Try to balance the course with at least a little volunteer work or something to give you some release from the academic workload.
Also, consider the advantages of taking a distribution requirement or other elective over the summer, where you can more easily work and study at the same time. This could free up time during the school year, and allow you full semesters rather than compressed summers to complete lab sciences.
