We wanted to remind you that the deadline to obtain a Real ID is approaching. Starting May 7, 2025, you will need a Real ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced ID, or a passport to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities.
Lawfully present non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply for a Real ID driver's license or ID card, but their Real ID will expire on the same date as their U.S. legal presence document.
If your legal status prevents you from getting a Real ID, you can still apply for a Massachusetts issued driver’s license or ID.
To obtain a Massachusetts Real ID, you'll need to provide documents proving your identity, Social Security number, and Massachusetts residency, and schedule an appointment at an RMV Service Center or AAA branch if you are a member.
