Honoring District 8's own Tracy DeTomasi, Executive Director of the #NoMore Campaign, I have co-sponsored this important Resolution
5. Nashville | Resolution RS2018-1433 A resolution recognizing October 2018 as Domestic Violence Awareness month in Nashville and Davidson County https://buff.ly/2R5EkCx
NO MORE Executive Director Tracy DeTomasi joined CNN's Christi Paul to discuss survivor responses to sexual assault, how this news cycle can trigger survivors, and what this moment—this attention to the epidemic of sexual assault—means for our country. Watch and read more here.
We’ve seen that these events are truly impacting survivors. On the day of Dr. Ford’s testimony, RAINN experienced 200% increase in calls to the National Sexual Assault Hotline. It’s apparent that while watching Dr. Ford, thousands of people felt empowered to speak about their trauma.
If you have experienced sexual violence and are seeking support, please call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673 or access the hotline here.

Sidewalk Updates

Hart Lane: We are awaiting TDOT’s concurrence to award a construction project to excavate both sides of Hart Lane and reconstruct sidewalk between Ellington Pkwy and the Baxter school. I expect this award concurrence to happen any day now.
Maplewood Trace: The project is ready for construction. Plans have been approved, and submitted to MPW's annual contractor for a proposal and scheduling. We have acquired the necessary environmental permits, completed property negotiations, and non-metro utility relocations are underway. The gas relocation is scheduled to begin this week, but may start next week due to the inclement weather. Utility pole relocations have begun and will be completed before construction is complete. At this time there are four sidewalk projects ahead of Maplewood Trace in the current annual contractor's schedule. Barring unforeseen circumstances our contractor anticipates that construction of the sidewalk will begin as early as February 2019

Dickerson Pike Phase 1: The topography and adjacent commercial properties along this section of Dickerson Pike required the stormwater outfall to be placed beyond the original limits of Phase 1. We coordinated the final outfall location with MWS - Development Services. Following the conceptual approval of the new outfall location by MWS-DS, we coordinated with MTA and MPW to extend the limits of the Phase 1 Sidewalk to incorporate the MTA stop South of Gordon Terrace since the area would be disturbed to install the proposed stormwater system. This additional coordination delayed the design approval process. Final plan comments are being addressed now, and we anticipate having fully approved plans by the end of October. The project will have significant impacts to commercial properties and we will begin negotiating with the 10 affected property owners following final approval from MWS - Development Services.

This project will also require the relocations of large utility poles and an existing gas line. We have begun coordination with non-metro utilities and we anticipate this project being ready for construction by the end of this year. While coordinating this project we will also be working to resolve any utility conflicts that will affect the next phase of sidewalk improvements on Dickerson Pike (End of Phase 1 to Donald Street).

Dickerson Pike Phase 2: Preliminary plans have been developed and presented to the Metro Planning Department Variance Committee. The committee approved our recommendation to continue the typical section from phase 1 (4' Grass Strip and 8' Sidewalk on the East side of Dickerson Pike) and extend the sidewalk to Donald Street. This proposed section of sidewalk is approximately 170' long and we anticipate having temporary impacts to one commercial property. We are working to have this portion of sidewalk being ready for construction prior to the completion of phase 1, and will coordinate with Metro's contractor to build phase 2 immediately following phase 1.

Urban Service District (USD) Annexation

It is October! If you are in the newly annexed areas for USD and qualify for trash/recycling service, you should have your cart and know what day your pick up is scheduled. For those of us have opted-in for recycling, your green cart should arrive soon with information attached. If you still have questions, please call 311.
Over 1,000 street lights have been installed in all of the newly annexed areas and the majority of them are in D8.  You'll have to tell your kids someday how dark it used to be in Madison.  If you see a spot that looks like it was left out or where the light isn't working, particularly intersections - please use the Hub or call 311 and report this for review.
Public Works cannot go onto anyone’s private driveway, or private roads, to provide services, due to potential liability issues. We require property owners, HOA’s, or property managers to sign a waiver, releasing Metro from liability.
There is a 166 unit mobile home park; Village Hills ion Dickerson Pike that we are working with to come up with a solution.  However, there are a series of roads that are all private roadways and are not managed by a group to sign a waiver and are too narrow to navigate. You will need to keep a private hauler:  These roads are not wide enough for acceptance as we discussed in our community meeting December 12, 2015.
