Dear Cathedral Family,

"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers."

This timely quote from Anne of Green Gables sums up what seems to be a new phenomenon: an infatuation with October. And not just October, but the pumpkin and pumpkin spice, the cooler weather, and the fall foliage. October is certainly a beautiful month, when we hopefully transition to new and familiar things. Here at Cathedral, we are preparing for the end of the school year's first quarter and looking forward to Fall Break. One dozen of our educators are also looking forward to the best kind of learning: traveling on two separate pilgrimages, one to Rome and one to France. As travel opportunities return to our society, we can once again expand our learning beyond the walls of our classrooms. There are numerous travel/learning opportunities on the books for J-Term and next summer.

September was great, too. We just welcomed visitors to our school community from Ghana and Bangladesh. At the very core of Holy Cross education is going out to those in need, as I am sure Basil Moreau knew well the words of Jesus; "Go into the whole world and preach the Gospel (Mark 16:15). The common themes of Holy Cross education truly connects us with other Holy Cross schools throughout the globe. What a joy that is to see and experience!

On September 13th, Cathedral's 105th birthday, Cathedral students and educators volunteered at more than 50 agencies across Indianapolis during our Day of Service. It was a beautiful day of serving others and putting our Holy Cross values into action. Please take five minutes to watch this wonderful video of our Day of Service, created by Silver Lantern Productions. The video is so well done, and I think you will enjoy it.

We also held our annual Evening of Excellence, when we share a combination of celebrating our past year's accomplishments with looking forward with energy to our future. We are planning exciting and innovative new spaces to enhance our students' experiences and are always grateful for the generous gifts of our donors to realize these dreams. We also celebrated the latest inductees into our Circle of Excellence. Cathedral has a long history of being a "dream job" for educators, and this year's inductees showcase the excellence of our tremendous institution. I am sure there are future inductees among our current staff and our student body as well!

In addition, we welcomed hundreds of our feeder school students to the matinee of our fall theatre production, Junie B. Jones Jr., The Musical. It is so gratifying to see our theatre program coming back with such great energy!

Back to October, we are poised and ready for our true "all hands on deck" event, our Open House, on October 5th. If you have prospective students, or if your neighbors do, or if you would like to join the energy, come and check us out! We love to show off our beautiful campus. We open the evening with Mass in the Chapel at 5:00, followed by tours and musical performances. Greatness is calling!

I leave you with an Irish Proverb: May the magic of the autumn colors bring you many blessings.

Thank you for your prayers and support, and Go Irish!

President

Happy Birthday, Cathedral!

Students and educators celebrated Cathedral's 105th Birthday with a special Mass led by Archbishop Charles Thompson on September 13. After Mass, a blessing from Pope Francis was presented to bless the Cathedral family. For the remainder of the day, all Cathedral students and educators dispersed to more than 50 organizations and schools across central Indiana for a Day of Service. We lived out our Holy Cross Values by bringing hope to others! This link includes photos from our Day of Service. May God continue to bless dear old Cathedral.

We were blessed to have Holy Cross visitors from around the world in attendance, including our beloved former Chaplain, Father Emmanuel.
Also during the Evening of Excellence, President Rob Bridges was proud to share that thanks to the generosity of the Cathedral family, we raised $10,190,920 during the 2022-2023 school year! Funds were raised for tuition assistance, endowments, capital projects, events, and gifts to specific clubs and activities. The Cathedral family's generosity directly impacts a Cathedral student, and we could not be more thankful to everyone who supports Cathedral High School!

Joyful Junie B. Jones Jr.!

Catheatre was proud to present Junie B. Jones, Jr. The Musical for 400 students on September 29 from several of our feeder schools. Able to join the fun were students from Nativity, Holy Spirit (east side), St. Matthew, St. Joan of Arc, Immaculate Heart of Mary, and St. Lawrence.
Our visitors had a fabulous time, and our students put on a fabulous show!
If you did not get a chance to see this wonderful production Friday or Saturday, there is still time! There is another show this afternoon, October 1, at 2:00.

Bring the whole family and enjoy the fun! Click here to buy tickets and meet members of the cast and crew.

Forever Irish
Ladies Brunch

Please join us for the 2023 Forever Irish Ladies Brunch on November 9 at Daniel's Vinyard, presented by Schmidt Associates. We are thrilled to welcome this year's featured guest, Kathyrn Whitaker, author of Live Big, Love Bigger.

Kathryn is a mom of six, a wife, and an amazing Catholic author and speaker. Her days are filled with carpools, sports, 4-H, 5 a.m. workouts, procrastinating meal planning, and a decent amount of late nights (thanks to Netflix and teenagers). Reserve your table or purchase your brunch tickets today by clicking this link.
This year's brunch begins at 9 a.m. and will feature a luxury raffle.

If you have any questions, please contact Natalie Matthews, Director of Donor Engagement, at nmatthews@gocathedral.com

Outdoor Nativity Scenes

Please consider joining Cathedral in showcasing outdoor nativity scenes this Christmas season. The cost is only $110, with part of the proceeds going toward tuition assistance at Cathedral High School. Click this link and order your nativity scene today! The deadline to place an order is October 8, and nativity scenes will be distributed Thanksgiving week.
