Building a custom yacht is complicated, to say the least. But delivering one? Now that's really something to see!
In the final 30 days, hundreds of details all come together at once. As we were preparing the final accounting for a recent Hargrave delivery, I looked at the papers, drawings, and invoices spread everywhere, and suddenly a memory from years ago came back to me. It still makes me smile.
My new bookkeeper at the time, Beverly Palmer, was working on the final accounting for a yacht we had built for Jose Delgado, CEO of Grolier Encyclopedia.
There were invoices and paperwork spread all over her desk, and poor Beverly was clearly overwhelmed.
Finally, she looked up at me, completely exasperated, and said:
“WHY DIDN'T HE JUST BUY A NEW BOAT?”
You really had to see the expression on her face when I replied:
“THIS IS A NEW BOAT, BEVERLY!”
