World War II, Blackouts, Rationing, Rosie the Riveter, the USO, Jim Crow at home—African-American war heroes overseas.
WAR BONDS: The Songs and Letters of World War II is a musical and living history cabaret interspersed with actual veteran's personal letters and headline newsfrom the Front. It captures the dark side of war and the strange juxtaposition of the light hearted, popular tunes of the time that kept people going, even as the atrocities and sacrifices of war surrounded them.
The Vietnam War, protests, the movements: Feminism, Black Power, Free Speech, Gay Liberation, Environmentalism, Peace.
Through music, comedy and visits with icons of the time, audiences experience how the events of 1969 affected the lives of three average Americans — a photojournalist on the biggest assignments of her life, an Army sergeant lost and in doubt as his platoon prepares for battle, and a young African-American woman confronting racism, sexism and alienation.
