We welcome our new executive director.
After an extensive search and careful consideration, we are thrilled to announce the appointment of Serena Stoudamire-Wesley as our incoming executive director. An experienced change agent, Serena has dedicated her career to advancing racial equity across the state and building sustainable programs that serve the unique needs of our communities of color. Serena will officially start her role in October.

Most recently, she held the role of deputy director and chief program officer at the Oregon Department of Education Early Learning Division, where she played a pivotal role in the creation of the new early learning agency – Department of Early Learning and Care. A committed community member, Serena has also served as director of equity, diversity and inclusion for Governor Kate Brown and is currently serving her second term as board commissioner for Prosper Portland. We have full confidence that her leadership will only expand Partners in Diversity’s impact and efforts to achieve and empower a workforce that reflects the rapidly changing demographics of the Pacific Northwest.
“In my new role as executive director, I’m looking forward to building upon the foundation that has been established for Partners in Diversity. Within that comes expanding opportunities for professionals of color, ensuring that our events and learning opportunities remain inclusive and accessible to all, and showcasing the value that workforce diversity brings to our region,” shared Serena.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Serena, we look forward to introducing her at our upcoming community events.

Say Hey! celebrates new Honorees at the East Portland Community Center
We had an amazing evening with all of you at the East Portland Community Center during our quarterly Say Hey! event. With nearly 500 professionals of color coming together, the room was filled with energy and new connections. We appreciate the enthusiasm and support shown for the newly introduced Honorees, and we encourage you all to reach out and connect with these new members of our community. A special thank you to all of the caterers and vendors who were an integral part of this successful event. Say Hey! is held each quarter so if you missed your opportunity to join us last month, please save the date for our next Say Hey! taking place on November 15 at PCC Sylvania. Registration details will be coming soon.
Finally, we’d like to thank our dedicated partners at the City of Portland for their incredible support and commitment to creating a thriving, diverse, and welcoming community for all.

Uniting our Community Resource Groups.
Last month we hosted our first joint Community Resource Group event. The gathering brought together our Asian Pacific Islander and Black Community Resource Groups at Oregon State University for an evening of casual networking, community building, and drinks and appetizers from Miss’ipi Chefs.
The evening also featured talks from civic leaders Albert Lee, executive director of the Oregon Advocacy Commissions Office, and Temmecha Turner, director of Community Diversity Relations at Oregon State University. Both speakers shared their insights on what it means to be a civic leader, and the importance of creating pathways to higher education and government engagement for our communities of color. We hope you all left the event feeling inspired to create positive change and engage with your communities.
A special thank you to Oregon State University for generously sponsoring this event.
