Formal Consultation Draft of PPM 230-375 – Academic Coordinator Series Policy
The University invites comments on proposed revisions to the UC San Diego Policy and Procedure Manual (PPM) Section 230-375 Academic Coordinator Series policy. These revisions propose altering the existing PPM 230-375 policy to institute merit eligibility for Academic Coordinators at UC San Diego using a continuous merit advancement model (CMA) that forgoes career reviews at the top of the scale, adopts standard merit expectations, review cycles, formal panel review, and Executive Vice Chancellor authority for merits beyond the highest steps on the scale. The revisions also create beyond scale eligibility at every level of the Academic Coordinator series. The proposed model standardizes further merits at 100% (or greater in cases of acceleration) of the difference between the top two steps of the existing salary scales and caps accelerated advancement beyond the scale at 150%. Systemwide APM 375 has not established formal Above-Scale (Distinguished) status and/or criteria for the Academic Coordinator series. PPM 230-375 is in alignment with the APM in this regard.
The addition of language to allow for continued advancement for Academic Coordinator series appointees at all three levels of Academic Coordinator without an Above Scale equivalent “career review.”
The continuous merit advancement of Academic Coordinators via standard merit expectations at 100% increments. Accelerated advancement is capped at 150%.
The addition of language specifying that the timing of continued advancement review cycles would not change from the current 2- or 3-year review intervals.
The addition of language requiring formal panel review for any merit beyond the highest step at any level.
The addition of language confirming the Executive Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs as the final authority for all merits beyond the highest step at any level.
Please send campus responses or comments about the proposed policy language to Director Lynn Field-Karsh, Academic Personnel, lfield@ucsd.edu. Responses will be open through July 2, 2021.
