| SGA Delights in California Wine Country
The Senior Golfers of America visited the Russian River Valley-Sonoma area to enjoy good golf, spectacular weather and beautiful scenery in this picturesque area of our great country. A genial group of SGA participants opened the event with drinks at the Vintners Inn and dinner at Healdsburg's Baci Cafe & Wine Bar, where, to most people's amazement, they actually closed up the restaurant as the last patrons remaining! It was an honor to welcome new members Karen & Peter Fortier, who traveled to the California from the great state of Texas. Peter and Karen are brother and sister-in-law of SGA Cajuns Peggy and Gene Fortier, known to everyone in Lafayette as "Steamer." It was a joy to have this convivial family together for the SGA event.
Beautiful weather showed off the fall colors throughout Sonoma County for a wonderful adventure for all. Participants were delighted each day with the shades of bright yellow, dusty gold, rusty red, and deep burgundy of the vineyards, as the sun bathed the rolling hills and fields with a golden glow.

Happy Wine Country Birthday to Karen & John!

A highlight of the event was the double birthday celebration for Karen Fortier and John Oppenheim. They were treated by Barbara Oppenheim to a delicious birthday cake and to a festive party appreciated by all.
Golfers enjoyed both the hospitality and the scenic vistas of Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club, one of the most beautiful private golf courses in northern California. The course proved to be immaculately groomed, challenging, and walkable in a beautiful park-like setting, and the perfect weather made each day's round a delight.
The celebration closed out with drinks and dinner in the Vintners Inn's fine dining restaurant John Ash & Co. Winner at gross was Peter Fortier. "What a grand time Karen and I have had on our first SGA trip," said Pete. "I thoroughly enjoyed playing with my brother and these other fine partners. It was a festival of my 'big' birthday, Karen's birthday, and also we got to be with John Oppenheim on his birthday!"
Net winner was Barry Monblatt, who also won the COD competition. "I didn't really play well on the first day," said Barry, "but i did keep on trying! I am looking forward to joining the SGA group at Palm Desert in February. I appreciate Catherine and Cynthia, the leaders, and alway have a good time with the people I meet on the trips."

SGA golfers and FoGs stayed on the go, traveling the back roads and enjoying the beautiful fall scenery as well as the fabulous Chateau St. Jean winery, the charming small towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, and also the two-mile walking trail through the vineyards of the Vintners Inn.
