Last Day to Access Grade Book

Just a reminder that grade book access for parents of students in Upper School classes will close tomorrow. Instructions on accessing grade reports are available on the Parent Essentials page.

Policy for Boarding Family Visits

To limit our campus exposure to SARS-CoV-2, we have been limiting the number of visitors to our campus. However, we also know how difficult it is for many of our families to endure a prolonged separation. For this reason, we are balancing physical safety with the mental health needs of our community.
Boarding families ARE permitted to visit on the weekend, but please adhere to the protocols, including letting Dean Smith know ahead of time of your intention to visit. If possible, we recommend planning a Sunday visit since this is the day when your child is less likely to be engaged in other activities.

Upper School & Boarding Family Weekend

SEP 25-27 Virtual

Plan to join us Friday night from 7-9 p.m. for a brief welcome and state-of-the-school address by Head of School Karl J. Sjolund followed by Q&As from our student leadership and boarding life staff. Everyone is invited to tune in for a special Friday night Creative Expression Assembly. Saturday morning from 9-11 a.m. you'll enjoy an online class walk-through tailored to your child's schedule. After the walk-through, faculty, coaches, and residential parents will be available for virtual office hours. Saturday night from 7-8 p.m. we hope you'll join us for Family Game Night. The weekend ends Sunday evening at 7 p.m. as we invite you to wind down and prepare for Monday the way our boarders do with our evening Compline service. Links for all events will be sent soon.

Testing on October 14

Short Academic Day, Early Afternoon Programs

On Wednesday, October 14, we will conduct standardized testing for students in grades 6-11 from 8:45 a.m. - NOON. Seniors will spend the morning bonding on the SAS Farm. Afternoon programs will run from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. Busses will run at 3:15 PM. Students without an Afternoon Program may be picked up at 3:00 PM.

Celebrating our Seniors

On September 8, the varsity volleyball team recognized their six seniors, Madalyn Cleveland, Meredith Foster, Luciana Mollica, Lauren Ostrowski, Justine Rogers, and Lauren Wockasen. View photos of this and other athletic events and teams on SmugMug

Your SAS/COVID-19 Questions Answered

It seems like my child is always being asked to retest. Is that normal?

A few of our students have been placed on a regular testing schedule based on their activities away from SAS. This allows us to more carefully monitor students whose athletics, arts, or family obligations may increase their exposure to other communities.

My day student gets temperature checked at home each morning. Why is it done at school, too?

Unfortunately, in MAGNUS's rush to market of their daily health check app, they have not gotten all of the bugs out, and it is difficult for us to get a timely report each morning. We want to encourage you to continue to use the app because 1) it is important that you monitor your child's health BEFORE they come to campus, and 2) eventually, it will work as it is intended. In the meantime, we will also check temperatures at school each day.

The 4-County Active Case Rate

As of Tuesday, the seven-day average active case rate is .30%. This number is significantly lower than in past weeks due to a change in how active cases are tabulated. Active cases in our region continue to climb, and we are monitoring the situation carefully.

Thanks for the Thanks

I want you to know how much I appreciate every single step, plan, precaution, and communication that you and the group are orchestrating and administering ... May God’s wisdom and grace uphold you in this work.

The Rev. John W. A. Jenkins (father of J.T. and Ellie)
