Let the celebrations begin! The Class of '23 will be graduating this weekend, and last night's Senior Banquet offered good food, good camaraderie, and good photo opportunities. Newly minted alumni will be heading off in all directions, including over a dozen Carls whose Fulbright awards will take them to South America, Europe, and Asia. There's plenty more to celebrate as well; Annemily Hoganson '24 is the recipient of a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship, and art history professor Ross Elfline has been awarded an inaugural Mellon Academic Leadership Fellowship. Class of 2023 Commencement
Carleton looks forward to celebrating its 149th Commencement with the Class of 2023! Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jonathan Capehart '89 will give the commencement address. The ceremony will take place outdoors on the Bald Spot on Saturday, June 10 at 9:30 a.m. Central.
The event will be live-streamed and archived so family and friends can share in the experience from anywhere in the world.

Update from President Byerly on race-conscious admissions
This month, the United States Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling on whether colleges and universities can consider an applicant’s race when evaluating their application for admission. While we don’t yet know the Court’s decision, the nature of the questions asked during oral arguments before the Court last October lead most commentators and legal experts ́to expect that the Court will rule against the two universities, the University of North Carolina and Harvard, whose race-conscious admissions practices have been challenged. New class of Weitz Fellows heads to Nebraska
Seven members of the class of 2023 have been awarded Weitz Fellowships. Established by Wally and Barbara Weitz ’70 P’96 P’99 P’02 over a decade ago, the Weitz Fellowship Program provides one-year, paid positions for Carleton graduates at multiple nonprofit organizations in Omaha and Lincoln. VP Bonner steps down
After nine successful years at the helm of Carleton's External Relations division, Tommy Bonner will be stepping down at the end of June. As the college’s leader for Development, the Alumni Annual Fund, Alumni Relations, the Grants Office, and until this year, Communications, Tommy has made a significant impact on the college, including leadership of the most ambitious campaign in Carleton's history. Profiles in Teaching: Lin Winton on passion, exploration, and just winging it
With her background and training in biology, Lin Winton, the Director of the Quantitative Resource Center and Lecturer in Biology, didn’t think that social justice, education, and organizing her own tutoring program would all somehow combine to become part of her career—until she came to Carleton. “Carleton has no shortage of exciting things that you can take on, and people who are interested in collaborating with you,” she said. Profiles in Teaching: Bob Daily ’82 on the joy of television
A two-time Writers Guild of America Award winner for the NBC sitcom “Frasier,” Daily has written and produced for shows such as “Desperate Housewives" and “The Wonder Years,” which recently won the prestigious Peabody Award. Daily returned to Carleton as visiting screenwriter in residence in cinema and media studies, sharing with students the knowledge he’s learned from years on the job. Read the profile ofBob Daily ’82.

Luce Scholars Program open to young alumni
Established in 1974, the Luce Scholars Program is a nationally competitive fellowship that offers early-career leaders immersive, professional experiences in Asia and includes stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement. The program welcomes applications from college seniors and young alumni who have had limited exposure to Asia. Learn more about the program and ways to apply.

Carleton is part of the Private College 529 Plan, and they are offering the 20th Anniversary Alumni Match. Any alum who is new to Private College 529 Plan and has a child five years old or younger can get up to $1,000 toward their prepaid tuition for college. Out After Carleton
Out After Carleton (OAC) exists to mobilize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Asexual and Allied (LGBTQA+) alumni, students, and friends of the college as a community to support Carleton's overall educational, admission, careers, and fundraising programs and objectives, especially as they relate to and affect LGBTQA+ students, alumni, faculty, staff, and allied friends of the college.
