Call for Applications: Fundamentals of Leadership Program for SMHS Faculty and Staff

Want to enhance your leadership competencies?
Ensure the success of a new project?
This nine-month cohort-based program is designed to support full-time SMHS faculty and staff with new or expanded leadership responsibilities. The program includes self-study, monthly half-day classroom sessions with the cohort and mentoring by an experienced leader within SMHS. You must have a defined work project to focus on during the program. This could be a new initiative, program or service you are leading in your division/department or across several departments and/or organizations.
Up to 10 faculty and staff members will be accepted. Support from your department/division chair or supervisor is required. Please click here for more details on the program and the class meeting schedule and to submit an application.
Applications are due on or before August 30, 2024
Applicants will be notified of acceptance by September 13, 2024

Call for Applications: CFE Early Career Faculty Development Workshop

Friday, October 25, 2024 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Early Faculty Development Workshop is a half-day professional development workshop designed for early career faculty to explore and discuss specific strategies to enhance their careers. The workshop consists of short presentations, a panel discussion, and interactive discussions on topics essential for understanding the academic medicine environment, discovering your career options, and developing your professional portfolio. This is a fully in-person workshop that will take place in Ross Hall. The deadline to apply is September 16, 2024.
By the end of this session, faculty will be able to:
- Describe the SMHS Appointments, Promotions, & Tenure (APT) criteria and requirements.
- Identify strategies to raise their professional achievements through development, research, and mentoring.
- Formulate an Individual Development Plan.
*Due to the focus on the promotion and tenure process, the workshop is limited to active status, regular (full-time) faculty at GW Medicine. For mid-career faculty and those with Limited Service, Research, and Clinical Appointments, please stay tuned for upcoming career development workshops in the spring!

Register for the CFE Teaching Essentials Series

The Teaching Essentials Series program is a series of one-hour workshops for scientists, clinicians, researchers, post-docs, and graduate students who want to learn more about key aspects of teaching & learning. Each session has an online component consisting of short videos and brief exercises to do on your own prior to the session. Participants then attend a 1-hour interactive virtual workshop session to apply concepts and get feedback from peers.
Sessions are held monthly from August 2024 - December 2024 as indicated above from 12:00 - 1:00 pm via Zoom.

NEGEA, NEGSA, and NEOSR invite you to submit proposals and abstracts to the first ever joint conference, focused on medical education, student affairs and services! Join your colleagues in the Northeast at this collaborative conference for an event dedicated to inspiring and fostering innovative dialogue, research, and sessions that advance critical conversations.
The inspiration is to collaboratively discuss challenges and opportunities in our areas, explore new ways of thinking and working, and expand your network. Embracing our theme, "The Power of Partnership: Innovation and Inspiration in Critical Conversations," we invite you to contribute to this pioneering event by submitting your proposals and abstracts, sharing your research, innovations, and pivotal disscusions with colleagues across the Northeast. SMHS Impact Team: Quality Matters Workshop
The SMHS Impact Team will be running the online, two-week asynchronous version of the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) workshop September 4-18, 2024. All faculty and staff are invited to participate at no cost. Although the workshop is asynchronous, there are two firm deadlines. Participants can expect a 10-12 hour time commitment throughout the two weeks.
Haven’t heard of Quality Matters? It is an independent organization that publishes research-based standards in course design in higher education.

AAMC Mid-Career 2024 Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar
The AAMC Mid-Career Minority Faculty Leadership Seminar addresses the needs of associate level faculty who are historically underrepresented in medicine through knowledge sharing, skill building, and strategy development for career advancement in academic medicine. Using a culturally responsive approach, this program offers networking opportunities, career development planning sessions, and small group consultations with senior faculty and leaders. Upcoming Medical Education Grants and Deadlines
The AAMC Group on Educational Affairs (GEA) seeks to encourage and support research and innovation that address important problems, answer timely questions, and drive the practice of medical education forward. These grants aim to advance the work of all those engaged in improving academic medicine. Additional information about past grant award winners, their research and innovations, and the outcomes of their work is available upon request from gea@aamc.org
Below is a link for the GEA national & regional grant page. The deadlines for submissions have not been posted but typically the national grant pre-proposal & the NEGEA full proposal grant deadline is around September 30th each year. The NEGEA offers two types of grants: Mini-Grant & Scholars Grant. The latter is a career development grant for an individual. Dr. Samanani received the grant last cycle. Additionally, if you have ideas and collaborators in other regions you can also be part of the other regional grants.

CFE Faculty Education Technology Support Office Hours
Wednesdays from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
Do you need help designing an educational session or using a new teaching technology? Teddy Hristov, the CFE Senior Instructional Designer, holds weekly office hours to support faculty.
These office hours are designated for discussing and practicing the best use of educational technology and pedagogical teaching/learning methods. If you have questions about completing a session design worksheet, do not hesitate to contact her.

The AAMC IDEAS Learning Webinars are free resources for registered members. AAMC membership is also free. The IDEAS Learning Webinars are led by experts to provide "comprehensive, reliable information." These educational series are helpful to health and medical faculty, staff, and students who want to be proactive in their efforts to foster inclusive environments and promote equity in medical schools.
