April 19, 2023
It is hard to believe we are nearly one month away from the start of Senior Days and Commencement celebrations. As we continue supporting our students and wrapping up the many projects and initiatives for the semester, please remember to take time for yourselves as you can, get outside to enjoy the spring weather, and reenergize yourself and teams – including next week’s staff event at the Cornell Softball game on April 26 at 4pm.Â
Looking forward, we continue to seek ways to spotlight our phenomenal SCL staff. Please help us identify outstanding staff (including our student staff) who contribute to inspiring transformation across our campus. Please submit your nomination using this link. We are encouraging submissions on a rolling basis.
In the newsletter below, take a moment to read about recent staffing updates and news from around the division. Take a look at upcoming events and opportunities to connect, review reminders from our HR teams, and view resources to support students.

Get to know Karli Buday
Director of Campus Activities & Area Coordinator for the Special Olympics
Karli Buday was recently awarded Volunteer of the Year by the United Way of Tompkins County for her work with the Special Olympics. Karli has been a volunteer for the Special Olympics since 2013 and enjoys supporting the Tompkins County and Courtland County areas in facilitating 14-15 sports on a three-season cycle. Karli serves as an Area Coordinator and looks forward to supporting all of the participants in the region. “I really appreciate the model of the Special Olympics which is based on ability and not disability,” she says. “We base it on what participants can do instead of what they have been told they can’t do.” Â
Karli identifies as having an invisible disability and was fortunate to have a support system while growing up to help her navigate the disparities in support from her local school system. She serves with the goal of giving the same support she received to the Special Olympic community. Â
Karli is grateful to the Cornell campus community for their sponsorship, resources and participation in the Special Olympics over the years. Many Cornell and SCL staff and students regularly volunteer for the games and all staff are welcome to support this important cause. Sign up to volunteer individually/as a group for the June 9-10 games here.Â
