Your Impact: The Capstone Project
|
Capstone projects are crafted to embody the SYA mission, highlighting the student’s experience relying on, and engaging with, relevant local resources. It is up to each student to design an experiential project in which they learn by doing.
SYA Italy student Reagan wanted to do a study of the flag wavers who lead medieval cultural events and compete. SYA Italy’s Dave Lutchner, the extracurricular coordinator, made a local connection for Reagan that blossomed into an incredible opportunity with the group Sbandieratori di Pilastro. From wanting to observe to being invited to participate, he had the honor of leading them in presenting the six nations “long casting” event Viterbo hosted.
Experiences like Reagan's are uniquely SYA, exemplifying our mission and the benefits of place-based education. Your generous support of the SYA Fund helps bring these projects to life for our students. If you haven’t made an SYA Fund gift, please consider doing so before June 30.
