Ken Holland Goes the Extra Mile for Travelers
Ken Holland with SP Plus was nominated by a PDX traveler.
"I would like to take this opportunity to recognize Ken Holland of your airport parking services for his professionalism, patience, and ability to deescalate the anxiety I had over my inability to find my car.
To set the scene: My departure from Portland was early morning. It was pitch black before sunrise and I was in a rush. Upon my return, I managed to forget the parking marker by my car, but had what I thought to be a vivid memory of the surroundings.
After going to where I was convinced my car was parked, that sinking feeling of uneasiness kicked in when I discovered my car was not there. After walking up and down the lot a few times, convinced that’s where I parked my car, I saw a white truck with a flashing yellow light. Ken pulled over, was polite, calm, and professional, took me in, and we began the search for my car together. I was convinced my car had been stolen, but Ken remained positive, stating that theft was a very rare occurrence. After calmly and persistently retracing my arrival to the lot, we eventually found my car."

PDX Surveys: We Want to Hear From You!
As PDX People, you’re the heart (and honestly, the brains) of our airport. No one knows this place better than you – which is exactly why we need your voice.
We’ve got two important ways for you to help influence what’s going on at PDX:
Shape the Future of the PDX People Program Take the PDX People survey and help us make workplace programs even better – from training and recognition to the way we communicate with you. It’s short (about 5 to 10 minutes), totally anonymous, and the first 500 people who complete it receive a $5 incentive after the survey closes. Deadline: Sunday, Nov. 30. Take the survey now.
Help Plan the Future of the Airport Big picture: PDX is growing. Over the next 20 years, aviation activity is expected to nearly double. The PDX 2045 Master Plan Update is our roadmap to make sure we’re ready – and we want your perspective as we evaluate different strategies and improvements. Your feedback helps us understand how these potential changes might affect you and how we can best support your work and our community as PDX evolves. Deadline: Monday, Dec. 1. Take the survey now.

Be Knowledgeable: Drone Safety at PDX
Do you know what to do if you look up and spot something buzzing in the sky that shouldn’t be there? At PDX, drone – or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) – operations are allowed, but only when they’re properly coordinated and authorized by the FAA. Anything outside of that can put aircraft and people at risk, so if you see something, say something.
If you notice a drone and aren’t sure it’s an approved operation, call the PDX Communications Center non-emergency number at 503.460.4747 and be prepared to share as many details as you can: your location, where the drone is flying, its direction, size, color, etc. If you have questions about drone rules or want general info, reach out anytime to drones@portofportland.com.

PDX Green Plate Program Serves Up Sustainability
It's official: The Green Plate program will start in early December at PDX! To take advantage of the full dine-in experience with real plates and utensils, head to Concourse C and place your order at Bambuza Vietnam Kitchen, MOD Pizza, or Mo’s Seafood & Chowder.
How does it work? Just follow these simple steps: 1) Place your order and employees will ask if you’d like to dine in. 2) Enjoy your food! 3) Drop off your dirty dishes in the bus tubs by the trash and recycling stations and leave food waste on the dishes – we’ll take care of composting. Relay Resources will monitor the carts, clean the dishes, and return them to the kitchens. 4) Share your thoughts! If you have feedback that could make the program better, send it to the PDX Waste Minimization team.

Building a Strong Airport Safety Management System
At PDX, safety guides everything we do. To strengthen this commitment, we're implementing an airport Safety Management System (SMS) – a proactive approach to identifying and managing risks in the Air Operations Area (AOA).
While SMS is required under FAA regulations (14 CFR Part 139), our goal is to go beyond compliance and build a strong, collaborative safety culture that protects everyone who works at or travels through PDX. What does that mean for you? In the near future, we’ll launch a confidential – except as required by Oregon Public Records Law or other applicable law – hazard reporting system, making it even easier to share safety concerns.
For now, if you notice a potential safety concern in the AOA, reach out to our SMS team at SMS@flypdx.com. Every report is reviewed and helps us improve how we operate, and your input is essential to keeping PDX safe for everyone. Learn more about SMS.

Artist Nick Stokes Celebrates Oregon’s Film History
A new large-scale mural by Portland artist and designer Nick Stokes is now on view in Concourse B, celebrating more than a century of filmmaking in Oregon. The vibrant piece features nearly 60 films and invites you to discover dozens of hidden easter eggs highlighting iconic moments, locations, and behind-the-scenes stories from productions across the state. Stokes – whose playful, film-inspired style reflects his deep Oregon roots – created the digital illustration as a colorful tribute to the crews, creatives, and landscapes that power Oregon’s film history.

PDX in Pictures
Last week, federal government employees received their back pay following the end of a 43-day government shutdown, the longest in history. During this time, we saw PDX employees, airport concessions, and our Portland community step up and show support in a big way – catering evening meals; donating cheese, chowder, and cold brew; offering deep discounts; and contributing household goods that kept a PDX pantry fully stocked. In fact, TSA attributed the lower-than-average callouts at PDX to our community’s incredible generosity.
A heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped in ways big and small – you had an impact on team member morale and on keeping our airport staffed and safe.
