Cadets on board the TS Kennedy arrive in San Juan, Puerto Rico this month, ending the third of five legs of summer sea term. Awaiting cadets, faculty, staff and crew are three bioluminescent bays that emit a neon blue light when disturbed. 

Bldg. 311 caught up with Dr. Anja Schulze, Texas A&M University at Galveston marine biology professor and Assistant Department Head of Graduate Affairs, who illuminated us about bioluminescence. 

On Sunday, July 2, junior Marine Transportation major Jacob Zahorsky ‘25, on board the tug Endeavor, helped dock the TS Kennedy in Tampa as part of his summer internship with Marine Towing of Tampa.

Since 2019, Texas A&M University at Galveston has collaborated with the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) on the National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) program.

With four cases detected in Florida and one in Texas, public health officials are taking steps to prevent further transmission.

During this year's Summer Sea Term, Captain Wade Howell '02 will be providing updates in the Captain's Log from the TS Kennedy while underway. Follow along to keep up with the vessel's activities!
