"There has to be more I can do to help." That's the thought that kept running through my head when I decided that I needed to step up my engagement to help those suffering from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a longtime Gwinnett Rotary Club member, it has been ingrained in me to do what I can to help not only my local community but those around the world. I worked with Rotary 6900 Disaster Relief, which had already raised $150,000 for critical medical supplies, to raise another $16,000 to ship those supplies and much-needed surgical equipment to help those suffering from the war. The next issue was to figure out how to get these supplies to Ukraine.
One of the benefits of working with Gateway85 CID is that the district, and neighboring areas, are filled with expert supply chain and logistics companies. We tapped the expertise of Friends of Disabled Children and Adults (FODAC) to organize and ship 39 pallets of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) weighing about 12,000 pounds!
Today, June 6, I will accompany these pallets stocked with surgical-grade medical instruments and wound care, respiratory supplies, needles, cots and eight Stryker drill sets - all of which are headed to hospitals to treat those affected by the war.
You can follow my travels on Instagram at this link here. Below is a map that shows the cities where I will accompany supplies juxtaposed to the invasion. This map was created using a Google-user-generated map of the Russo-Ukraine war.

Closer to home, we met with Gwinnett County's head of Economic Development Roman Dakare on our proposed plans for the County-owned 103-acres at the OFS site. We hope to hear by the end of the month about the County's thoughts and possible next steps to create a center for the advancement of digital media and film.

There will be critical races affecting our district, so plan to vote on Tuesday, November 8 to decide the following:
- Governor Brian Kemp (R) vs. Stacy Abrams (D) - for Governor
- Raphael Warnock (D) vs. Herschel Walker (R) for U.S. Senate
- Lucy McBath (D) vs. either Michael Corbin (R) or Mark Gonsalves (R) for U.S. House of Representatives - District 7
- Ben Ku vs. John Sabic for Gwinnett County Commission - District 2
We'd like to recognize Carolyn Bourdeaux for her past hard work and efforts to move transit and other issues forward in our district and congratulate Lucy McBath for winning the race. McBath will represent our district if she wins the November election.

Progress continues on Gateway85 CID's media upgrades. Concrete is being removed from the center of existing medians to make way for landscaping and soft scaping materials. In addition, new medians are being planned along Jimmy Carter Boulevard, which will both beautify the area and improve safety for those making turns across the multiple lanes of oncoming traffic.
Operation Positioned for Prosperity (POP) also continues along Buford Highway, where we are repairing, updating and repainting more than 100 handicap ramps and sidewalks as well as repairing 230 linear feet of handrails.
