Tips for Grads: Use your network to job search

Career Development
Searching for your first job post-graduation job is an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in your industry’s professional network. Because finding the perfect post-graduate position can seem daunting, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on the job market, we’ve put together these tips to help you pursue your job search with confidence.
Connect with alumni. Forming relationships with alumni will help you expand your network and put you on their radar, should a job opportunity arise. BadgerBridge is a great resource for making alumni connections.
Build your professional network. Your network can extend well past alumni — don’t be afraid to reach out to people you admire in the industry. Professionals are often willing to share insights on the field and how they went about securing their first position.
Develop your LinkedIn profile. Use the platform to connect with people that work in roles and at companies you are interested in. Forming connections with professionals will help your name stand out when applying for a job at their company.
Keep tabs on your industry. Have there been new technology advancements? New companies emerging? Keeping tabs on the important milestones of the industry will help stay informed and confident when engaging in informational or job interviews.
Your first post-graduation position can put you on track for a great career path — so make sure you’re investigating the industry! Professionals will appreciate your enthusiasm and eagerness to learn more about their career paths and the industry climate.
